Coaches Message
Happy New Year everyone! Greenville Splash had an epic 2023! Thanks for being a part of our vision to give back to our community by extending our passion for swimming so others can experience the love of being in the water. We had so many amazing accomplishments this past year, here are a few highlights:
- We continued another year of the Upstate Veterans Swim program which provided swim lessons and coaching to 40 veterans. We were featured in a 5 page article in the USMS Swimmer Magazine.
- We hosted the Greenville Splash Invitational which provided swimmers from all over the Southeast to compete and have fun.
- We hosted the 9th Annual Upstate Splash Charity Open Water Swim. This year our proceeds were used to make a donation to Aqua Angels.
- We had over 572 Coached Workouts!
Now is the time to renew annual dues for Greenville Splash and USMS. Thank you to all those that have renewed already. New team swag will be coming soon. Your annual dues help us to fulfill our vision. Your support is appreciated.
Send Leslie results and pictures of your events for our next newsletter. Feel free to email Coach Leslie at greenvillesplash@gmail.com or give me a call if you need any help with anything: 864-283-1328.
Barbara Eisele is a true inspiration for all of Greenville Splash. She is well deserved of the Greenville Splash Swimmer of the Year! At 93 years young, she continues to wake up at 4:00 am to drive to the Greenwood YMCA to start swimming at 5:00 am. She swims for 2 hours three days a week. She wants to get her workout in early so it doesn't interfere with the rest of her busy day. She likes to compete in swim meets because it keeps her motivated to train hard in the pool and hold herself accountable. At the South Carolina SCM Championships, Barbara set 3 new state records in the 200, 800 and 1500 Free, and she even swam faster than two years earlier and broke 2 of her own standing records in the 50 Back and Breast. She already has the 200 IM record but swam to be ranked in the world for 2023 in her age group. She has the number one world ranking in the 200 IM for 2022. She was the first swimmer at her age to swim the 1,500 (mile) in her age group in South Carolina! She swims to stay young and healthy, and also to have moments like holding her 7th great-grandchild born 3 weeks ago. We could not be more proud of her!
Scott Conklin has been a huge asset to Greenville Splash this year! He is always eager to help out any way he can and he consistently says yes to any volunteer position. He started off this summer by becoming certified to be a USMS official and then volunteered for all of the officiating sessions at the Greenville Splash Invitational. He also started substitute coaching when the need arose and filled in all summer and fall. We now have him coaching on a more permanent basis and we couldn't be more pleased.
Phil Elliott has been a valuable volunteer for Greenville Splash for many years. He always volunteers to be a timer for the Age Group State Championships and for the Greenville Splash Invitational. We appreciate his enthusiasm and warm smile whenever he is helping us out. Phil is also a super supportive spouse, he goes to every swim meet to watch Kacky swim.
