Earth Day Shirts
Earth Day is April 22. Celebrate this day with our SAVE Club by ordering and wearing an Earth Day shirt. Order forms are due by February 16 and can be accessed here. Reach out to Mr. LaBorn with any questions.
Dental Screening Opportunity
The Smile Squad at the DuPage County Health Department is coming to Jackson on Friday, February 16. Children who complete a signed consent form will receive a free dental exam. If the child meets the necessary requirements, they will receive dental cleaning, fluoride treatment, and sealants. A letter will be sent home with the exam results and what services were completed. This dental exam will meet the state mandated requirements due on May 15 for all 6th grade and newly enrolled 7th/8th grade students. Please complete the required permission sheet in order to participate.
5Essentials Parent Survey
Through March 29, parents and guardians are invited to complete the 5Essentials survey to help us better understand the conditions at your child’s school and guide improvement. Identities and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to a parent or child. The state will provide survey results for individual schools only if a school has at least 20 percent of parents take the survey. If a parent has children attending more than one school, please complete a survey for each school. Visit the 5Essentials website to take the survey.

PTA Sponsored Luau Dance
The Jackson PTA is hosting a schoolwide Luau Dance at Jackson this Thursday, February 29, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Students must have a school ID in order to attend the dance. Entry and exit will take place through door #4. Students should be picked up from Jackson promptly at 8:30 p.m. Walking home will not be allowed. Drop-off and pickup for the dance will take place via the plaza drive.
As always, students must be in good standing with school behavior to attend the dance. Students sent to the office for a behavior incident could be at risk of losing the privilege of attending the dance. This decision would be made by the Jackson administration.

PowerSchool Parent Portal
PowerSchool is a proactive communication tool parents/guardians can use to stay informed about their child’s academic and work habits progress in school. Please click on this PowerSchool Parent/Guardian Quick Guide link for more information about how to navigate the PowerSchool portal. There is a mobile app version of the PowerSchool Portal for families. The interface of the mobile app is slightly different from the web version. Attendance
A friendly reminder that it is the responsibility of a parent/guardian to contact Jackson in the event his/her child will be absent from school. Please plan to report your child’s absence, prior to 9:00 a.m., by calling our attendance line at (630) 516-7368. Parents/guardians will leave a voicemail reporting their child’s absence. In the voicemail, please include the following information:
Child’s name and grade level
Date of absence
Reason for absence
Student absenteeism should be kept to the minimum; however, the School Board recognizes that some absences are unavoidable. The following are valid causes for a student's absence and will be considered “excused,” as specified in Section 26-2a of the Illinois School Code:
Illness
Observation of a religious holiday
Death in the immediate family
Family emergency
Other situations approved by the school principal
