Pumpkin Carving in Art and STEM
Ms. Watters and Ms. Mueller collaborated with Ms. Franco's class this week to create Jack-O-Lanterns. Students traced out a design on their pumpkins in Art class and then carved them out using canary knives in STEM. They then cleaned out the pumpkins, saving the seeds to toast up for a healthy snack. After, they added a glow stick to give our pumpkin friends some light! All of the teachers are so happy with how the Jack-O-Lanterns turned out! We hope they are enjoyed at home!

Ms. Adamo's Counselor Corner
8th grade information:
Today, the 8th graders visited NVOT to learn about their elective options. When they returned to CDW, they filled out an “elective reflection” sheet to record their thoughts regarding each of their elective choices. These sheets will be returned to the 8th graders in January, prior to their high school scheduling meetings with Ms. Adamo and a high school guidance counselor, which will take place at the beginning of February.
Just a reminder that transcript release forms for Catholic Schools are due to Ms. Adamo by October 27. If your daughter is applying to the Academy of the Holy Angels, there is no transcript release form; parents submit their daughter’s report cards directly to AHA.
Please continue to check Ms. Adamo’s Google Classroom for information regarding applying to other high schools and/or for the transition process to NVOT.
6th grade information:
On Monday, October 16th, Ms. Adamo taught another lesson of the Ignite your Shine program. This month’s lesson was “I’m exceptional because…”
5th grade information:
On Tuesday, October 10th, Ms. Adamo taught a character education lesson on Manners: What are they and why are they important? Students were presented with typical situations in school and had to decide how best to solve those situations using their manners.
Reminders for all grades:
Wellness Wednesday lunches:
Grades 5 and 6 lunch with Ms. Adamo is in room 414.
Grades 7 and 8 lunch with Dr. Polizotto is in room 308.
Should you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s academic, social or emotional needs, please contact me at adamoj@nvnet.org or 201-664-1475 ext. 2203.
Fall Sports
This was a busy week for the CDW Knights so here are the highlights.
The soccer team won Wednesday beating an undefeated Harrington Park team 2 to 0. The defense was excellent, led by goalie Caleb Park, who recorded the shutout. He was helped by his defenders Elizabeth Forcellati, Christine Hong, Zach Kim, Matthew Kosmark, and Justin Lee. The offense came from Kyle Gagliano who scored on a penalty kick, and Jason Jun who scored on a breakaway.
On Wednesday, the girls' volleyball team celebrated the 8th graders' last regular season home game. Although they fell to Harrington Park in a grueling match, all of the girls were able to set foot on the court.
The boys' volleyball team won on Wednesday versus Harrington Park with a strong game plan! Although the boys did not win on Thursday against Norwood, they did come out on top for the third set in a grueling match that ended with a score of 30-28! Way to go Knights!
The playoff schedule is as follows:
Monday (10/23) - Boys' Volleyball HOME @ 3:45
Tuesday (10/24) - Girls' Volleyball HOME @3:45
Tuesday (10/24) - Soccer @ Norwood 3:45

Volunteers play a huge part in the PTO and what we are able to offer our students and teachers. Without volunteers, many of the programs that students, teachers, and families enjoy will not be able to happen. Volunteer descriptions can be found at: OTPTO.org under "More Info" and then "Flyers."
If you have interest in joining the PTO Board, joining or running a committee, or just want to learn more- please reach out to the PTO by visiting OTPTO.org and selecting "Contact Old Tappan PTO" under the Help tab.
REMINDERS
Halloween at CDW!
When your child(ren) is choosing a Halloween costume, please remember:
The costume must allow the student to see to ensure safety.
If the costume has an accompanying weapon (knife, sword, gun, bow/arrow, etc.), your child may not be permitted to bring it to school.
Your child will wear the costume for the length of the school day so it should be something that allows him/her to walk and sit comfortably.
Costumes should comply with our dress code ( Student Handbook).
Students do not have to wear a costume. Some students might opt to wear black and orange.
