Welcome to the 2023/24 School Year!
On behalf of the Gunnison Elementary School (GES) teachers, it is with great excitement that I welcome you to the 2023/2024 school year!
As a new principal to the building, I look forward to getting to know you and your child while helping them find personal, social, and academic success. The elementary school years are significant in the growth and development of a child. I am honored to have the opportunity to lead the amazing team of teachers at GES as we work with you and your child to help provide a solid foundation for learning, growing, and achieving!
Be sure to follow us on social media this year! We will be working with Gunnison High School intern, Udev Vijay, to tell the story of GES - who we are, what we do, and why we choose to do it every day. We have remarkable educators at GES and I look forward to sharing the great things they do in their classrooms to help build up our GES school community. Thank you for partnering with us!
There are a few changes to procedure this year that I would like to highlight:
- Students will be allowed to play on the playground before school in the morning. I ask that parents make every effort to not drop off before 8:00 am as we will not have supervision until then. The playground is closed after school as we are not able to provide supervision.
- The bell schedule has changed and GES will have a hard start this year at 8:25 am. Your student arriving on time is essential to their academic and social learning. When students are late, they miss the opportunity to get breakfast, greet their teachers and classmates at the door, and they miss out on important learning information in morning circles. Thank you for helping to provide a strong start to your child's learning every day!
- If you are a parent of a first or second grade student, please let your child know that they will enter the building every day through their assigned grade level door outside. Students in third through fifth grade will enter through the main front entrance when the bell rings.
- Please note: To ensure the safety of all children in our building, we do not allow families to walk their children to their classroom. Parents are welcome at GES, we simply ask that you have a pre-arranged visit or volunteer opportunity with your student's classroom teacher prior to arrival. If you would like to have lunch with your student, please call our Office Manager, Tash Wells, 970-641-7710, to let her know by 9:00 am.
- Teachers (except first grade) will be communicating home via email this year. Teachers will not be using Class DoJo. It is important that parents call the front office if there are any changes to a student's after school plans. Please do not contact the teacher directly. There are many factors that can contribute to miscommunication when the front office is not notified of changes to a student's day. First Grade Teachers will use SeeSaw to communicate with parents to help with the K - 1st transition. Thank you for understanding.
Last thing - we are in need of Crosswalk Crossing Guards. If you are interested in helping us cover this vitaly important need, please fill out this form. Thank You for your consideration!
I am looking forward to Monday!
With gratitude,
Robin Wilkinson
Principal

Capturing Kids' Hearts
GES is a Capturing Kids' Hearts (CKH) school. That means we take a relationship building approach to behaviors. Students are encouraged and empowered with CKH strategies and tools shared by teachers, education assistants, counselors, and administrators. Each week, look for our CKH updates to learn what is happening in our building and how you can support your child's learning at home.
