Newsletter Term 1 Week 8 2023
School Motto
Holy Spirit Catholic Primary School is committed to the pursuit of Christian Truth & Excellence.
All members of the school community are encouraged to develop their potential and special qualities in an environment centred on Christ.
Core Values
As a community centred on the example of Christ, the following core values (CARE) underpin our approach.
Community
We value every member of our school community and we are committed to working together to reach our shared goals through mutual support, encouragement, and celebration of our Catholic faith.
Achievement
We are committed to learning at every level to achieve our personal best.
Respect
We have personal and collective responsibility to each other and to the school’s success.
Excellence
We promote excellence in all that we do.
Prayer
Dear Lord,
God of infinite love, I thank you for this reminder of your love and your call that we be more patient, gentle and compassionate with others. Here in the middle of Lent, I turn to you to beg for your help. Please soften my heart. I ask you this, in Jesus' name.
Amen
From Mr Will
Dear Community Members,
Well Week 8 is upon us, and we are rolling down to the end of the term. Schools build momentum over the term and we are in the thick of it at the moment. So many events are being planned or in progress. If at any stage you have any questions about what is coming up, give the school a call and we will be able to keep you up to date.
Enrolments 2024/2025
We are changing our structure for future enrolments at Holy Spirit. To come into line with surrounding schools, we will be enrolling 2 years prior to 4 Year Old Kindergarten, during this process we will also offer the option of entry into our 3 Year Old Program. We are currently accepting enrolments for 4 Year Old Kindergarten 2024 and 2025. If you are a parent of a 3 Year old, please call or come into the office to check the status of enrolment for your child.
Places are limited for 2024 and 2025, so please let family and friends know.
Harmony Day
I just finished a short interview with the Year 6 Communications Ministry asking about the importance of Harmony Day. They are turning this into a Podcast, which will be out shortly. As I was speaking about learning from other cultures and celebrating our different origins with Gioia and Oscar it made me reflect on the importance of the day. We have a rich and at times, difficult history in our country, but I feel days like these, teach our students that we are all welcome, no matter your background.
NAPLAN
NAPLAN has been ticking along through our Year 3 and 5 classes this week.I would like to thank Mrs Natalie Sims for her administration of these tests this year. NAPLAN is always a well-advertised test in Australia due its politicised nature in the media. I believe that like any test we must take NAPLAN as a point in time measure of achievement for each student, but it is only one measure and raw data is just the start of the story not the end point. Tests have been running smoothly and without any technical issues, which has been excellent.
Communication Map
We willl communicate with you in a variety of ways throughout the year, there have been a few updates to how we are communicating. We are moving to storing all documents that are sent to families on SEQTA Engage in the Documents section. We will have some instructional videos for this process, hopefully in the next newsletter! P&F Shout Out
Our P&F are amazing! They have so many events in the process, it would make you spin. The Roar’N’Snore is coming up this weekend and judging by ticket sales, it is going to the biggest yet. I cannot thank the P&F enough for all their organisation of this event, they have ticked every box to make this such a celebration of our community.
Bling your Bike, celebrating National Ride2School Day is again such an amazing event to look forward to. I am excited to see all the blinged out bikes and scooters this Friday. The P&F are also putting on a light breakfast snack for all participants from 8:15-8:45am.
Interschool Swimming
Our Interschool Swimming Carnival will take place next Friday March 31st. Congratulations to Gioia and Chase who will be representing Holy Spirit as our Interschool Swimming Captains. I wish all the swimmer’s the best of luck for their races and look forward to cheering them on during the competition. I know we took home the trophy last year and it is all about how we compete and how we display our values, but…..lets go back-to-back!!
Footy-Tipping
Footy is back and what a round to start off, and a draw for the first game, amazing! But a few upsets as well. The Cats couldn’t replicate the win over Collingwood from last year, and I did pick Carlton to start the year on the right foot, Freo too, I thought that one was a lock. At the end of the day no one really remembers who wins the first game anyway, we move on to Round 2. Well done to our winner NonnaGOFREO, with 7 tips and a perfect margin. We have 35 tippers at last count which is a Holy Spirit record, there is still time to join and your tips come over if you are registered on ESPN Footy Tips, you have to be in it to win it!
Term 2 Start Date
A reminder that our start date for Term 2 is Wednesday the 26th of April.
Until next time,
Ben
