APRES October SWIM '21

Greetings Dolphins!

Can you believe it is already October! October is a month of awareness for many causes and we will do our best to support and represent for each of them over the next 31 days. Please encourage your scholars to participate.

This year we are bringing back Trunk-or-Treat. In collaboration with our PTA we are hosting our version of Trunk-or-Treat by having Book Character Day. Each class will select a book to read and dress as characters from the story. Your classroom teacher will share more information about that. If you are a member of the PTA, you will receive information from our President detailing how you can support. In Thursday's VIP folder all parents will receive a form letting us know if you will be able to donate candy for this event. All treats must be store bought, prepackaged and individually wrapped. We will provide treat bags for students to collect their candy and treats. We will begin accepting "candy" donations on Wednesday, October 13th in the front office.

Again, all of the items must be store purchased, pre-packed and sealed. No open candy is allowed at the event. It is also important to note, that scholars are not permitted to pass out candy or distribute candy at Randolph ES. Any candy being distributed by our scholars will be confiscated and discarded.

We are still celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month and this week is our Hispanic Heritage Spirit Week.

As we move into October, we are digging into Unit Assessment Data and reviewing our student academic risk reports. In addition, our 2nd and 4th grade students will complete the MAP Assessment, beginning this week. The window for the MAP Assessment is October 4-15. As a result of our data analysis we will begin Extended Learning and High Dosage Small Groups. Parents will receive invitations for their scholars to participate in additional learning programs. This is a unique learning opportunity for your scholar, and we sincerely hope that you will enroll your scholar in the learning programs as they are a true benefit to their academic success. Extended learning is scheduled to begin October 18th. Please check with your scholar's teacher if you have not received an invitation and would like for your scholar to attend extended learning.

This is a reminder that school starts promptly at 7:40 AM. In order to maximize our instructional day, we need our scholars here on time. The building opens at 7:10 AM for scholars and breakfast is served until 7:35 AM. Please make sure you are arriving on time so that scholars do not miss any classroom instruction.

Please talk to your scholars about the appropriate use of cell phones. When a scholar enters the building, his/her cell phone is to be powered off and placed in the backpack. Students are not to make phone calls or text during the school day, including lunch and recess. Parents, please refrain from calling and texting scholars during the school day, as it is a distraction to the learning environment. Should you have an emergency and need to communicate with your scholar during the instructional day, please contact the front office at 470-254-6520. The instructional day ends at 2:20 PM.

Thank you parents who have donated masks, wipes, and snacks to our classrooms. You are EXTRAORDINARY! Please remind your scholar to wear his/her mask each day. It is critical in our efforts to maintain a safe environment for all students and staff. Far too many car riders are exiting the car with no masks. We greatly appreciate your attention to this matter.

Please be sure if your student is absent that he/she returns to school with an excuse for the absence.

All Fulton County schools will participate in a total of six Late Start Mondays. Schools will reserve the time for collaborative work in PLC's and job-embedded professional learning.

The research is clear: when teachers plan and collaborate about student progress, students benefit. While Late Start Mondays will not impact the regularly scheduled arrival or breakfast times for students, they are afforded an additional hour for arrival on these days. Therefore, we highly encourage parents to use this additional time to create opportunities for bonding time with your scholar. Consider a shared breakfast at home, dialogue and discussion and an opportunity to review with your scholar their grades and progress. Let's make our Late Start Mondays an impactful time for our scholars.

On late start days, scholars may arrive at school as late as 8:40 with no penalty, however breakfast will end at 7:35 in preparation for lunch. The school day will end at its regular time of 2:20.

Students who arrive on time will be located in designated supervised areas while the teacher is in his/her PLC.

• January 24: Late-Start Monday

• February 28: Late-Start Monday

• March 21: Late-Start Monday

It is imperative that if your scholar has come in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID19, if your scholar has tested positive for COVID19, or if he/she is awaiting test results, that this information is reported to the district Parent Reporting Portal immediately. Please DO NOT send any students to school exhibiting any signs of illness, particularly those resembling COVID19 symptoms. Any student with the following symptoms will be required to be picked up from school immediately and asked to remain home until they are symptom free for 24 hours.

• Fever
• Congestion or Runny Nose
• Cough
• Headache
• Stomach ache accompanied with vomiting or diarrhea

Any child exhibiting any of the above symptoms will be sent to the nurse's office and immediate pick up is required.

Do know that it is our priority to continue to keep our staff and students safe and we need your support with doing so.

All students are required to wear a mask to school every day. Please refrain from sending your scholar to school with out an appropriate face covering. We have noticed a number of scholars arriving without masks and while we have replacement masks on hand, we are not prepared to provide masks to every scholar every day. Please help us by making sure your son/daughter has a mask when leaving the house each day. We are accepting donations of youth size masks
