Update from the Principal
Minnehaha Family,
It is hard to believe it’s already mid October! We’re off to a great start this year. I will admit, watching the pace of construction over the summer, I was a bit fearful about a timely start to the school year. However, in the end everyone pulled together and we got the building open! The changes to the building have been dramatic and we are only through the first phase of the construction. By spring break we will be looking at moving into the new cafeteria and additional classroom areas. Then next summer we will remodel the remaining spaces.
With the year off to a great start this is a good time to send some reminders. Remember that our official start time is 7:50 am. This means students should be in their classrooms and ready to go by 7:50 am. If you want your child to participate in the free breakfast please have them here before 7:40 am. Also remember the building does not open before 7:30 am. If you need childcare prior to 7:30 am, please contact Community Education and ask about our Kids and Company childcare program.
Halloween is always an exciting time in our school. There are often classroom activities and students have a halloween parade to show off costumes. In your planning please remember we have a lot of very small children in attendance and we do not allow costumes that feature blood and gore in the parade. Save those super scary costumes for Halloween night. Further our security protocols do not allow visitors in the building during the day so we will once again record the parade and post it online.
Another reminder regarding dismissal. It is a logistical challenge making sure all of our children are on the correct bus, meeting the right parents, and or attending the right after school programs. With that said we do it very well. However when parents make changes to their childs after school arrangements late in the day it makes this task much more difficult. It also creates a situation where communication between the office and the child’s teacher becomes difficult. Please contact the office regarding transportation changes no later than 2:00 pm. Also remember we do not allow casual or occasional changes to bus assignments. Allowing this would create a very difficult situation for our drivers and make it difficult to ensure each child gets where they need to go. We can accommodate changes that are regular and predictable.. For example, a change to a drop off location that will take place every Tuesday would be acceptable. What we can not accommodate are situations where you want your child dropped off at a friend's house or day care every now and then.
Lastly, don't forget MEA break is this week. There is no school on Thursday October 19th!
Thank you all for a great start to the school year! Have a great October.
