Virtual Parenting Sessions with Jackie Rhew
District 47 will be hosting a four-part virtual parenting series for D47 parents and guardians starting November 15. In this first virtual session, Jacqueline will lead an interactive discussion around interventions and strategies to promote active school engagement. There will be a special emphasis placed on supporting students who have struggled with mental health, medical, or pain management concerns, leading to issues with attendance, work completion, and building healthy relationships in the school environment. Parents will:
- be prompted to self-reflect on beliefs and mindsets, especially how personal reactions can impact the confidence, motivation, and engagement of their children.
- gain strategies to respond to and assess their child’s needs.
- learn interventions in the home setting that promote school attendance and engagement.
- review obstacles and barriers to active school engagement.

Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) Reports
Students in grades 3-8 participated in the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) as required by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) during the spring of 2023. Participating school districts, including District 47, have now received a copy of individual student reports. Families will be able to access their student’s report electronically at https://il-results.pearsonaccessnext.com using a unique code on a paper copy of a report that will be provided to parents during parent/teacher conferences. A copy will be sent home to those that are unable to attend conferences.
Extended Curriculum Placement Assessment
This school year, 3rd and 5th grade students will take the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) between November 27 and December 8. This assessment is one measure the district uses to determine extended curriculum (EC) placements for students. EC placements will not be given until late spring, parents will be contacted by your child’s school if they qualify for the program. CogAT replaces the Otis-Lennon School Ability Test (OLSAT) administered in the past.
