REFLECTION
As we gather in darkened churches to celebrate the Easter Vigil, we are reminded of the power of one candle. The Paschal candle lit from the Easter fire has the ability to illumine the entire church and banish the darkness. From that one candle the flame is shared and diffused throughout the worshipers until hundreds of reflections of that light bathe the entire church in a warm glow. All of this is a powerful symbol of the power of the resurrected Christ to cast out the darkness of our lives.
Part of the human experience to this day is times of darkness when we lose our way. A catastrophe can knock us off our feet. We can make impulsive decisions that endanger our long-term well-being. We can engage in destructive behavior because of the inclination to jealousy or feelings of ill-will toward others. Where do we find the guidance to help us get back on track?
This Easter celebration of new life, of light overcoming darkness gives us the hope and faith that will show us the way throughout this coming year. This journey is one that we walk together. Let us reflect the light of the Easter candle to all those we meet, but especially to those who are looking for a way out of darkness.
From The Principal
Dear Parents/Guardians,
I wish to take this opportunity to wish everyone within our school community every blessing this Easter and to pray for the well being of all those people around us. May Christ's light shine on all of you this Easter.
Congratulations:
Congratulations to our 8th grade students who have received their high school acceptances for next school year. It is always a tense time of year as it is a big event in the life of the 8th graders. Congratulations!
Two weeks ago, a team of our 8th graders participated in the Academic Decathlon at St. Pius School. The team competed against 11 other schools form the Archdiocese. Our team performed very well and took fourth place in the Super Quiz. Two of our students performed very well in the individual subjects, with Noah Rauch taking second place in science and Devin Kaya taking third place in literature. Congratulations to all of the students who participated. It was a great effort by all!!
Congratulations to all our basketball teams for playing so well during the season. In the end we had three teams win the championships. Thanks to all coaches and parents for supporting our students.
Re-Enrollment for 2016-2017 School Year
The re-enrollment process has finished as of March 15th for next year. Parents who chose to pay later need to have your enrollment fee to the office by March 28th, 2016. We are attaching a list of the fees for next year in this newsletter.
Volunteer Hours
The All Souls School Board wishes to remind everyone that it is important that families fulfill the participation hours of their respective jobs. It becomes a moral issue if parents do not fulfill these hours - theft of services.
New School Roof and Solar
I am pleased to announce that we are in a position to replace the school roof during the summer and to convert to solar energy. The Archdiocese will be overseeing these projects. All Souls will be the first school in the Archdiocese to convert to solar energy.
Testing Changes
At the Principal's Meeting on Tuesday we were informed of the changes to the standardized testing program for 2016 -17 school year. IOWA Testing will no longer occur. We will be utilizing STAR Testing for reading and for math. The tests will occur three times a year with a 20-minute test for both reading and math. Results will be available online and teachers will have access to a detailed report for each child to assist with planning more individualized programs for the students.
Molloy's Adult Night
This coming Saturday night will be a fun-filled evening at Molloy's Pub on Mission Road opposite from Holy Cross Cemetery. We look forward to seeing as many parents and friends there as possible. There are wonderful prize baskets that are being raffled off.
Spring Pictures
If you are not purchasing Spring Pictures, please return them to your child's teacher.
Lost Property
I wish to remind parents that the lost property cabinet near the cafeteria is overflowing with clothes. If your child has lost any clothing items please come and have a look at the cabinet.
Blocking the Entrance to the Lower Car Park
At the school board meeting last night there was an observation that some parents are dropping their child/children off on Spruce and blocking the entrance to the lower car park. Please do not block this entrance, as other parents are trying to drive into the lower car park. Please do not park in the turn around as you enter the school parking lot. This is a danger to children walking in this area and it is a no parking zone. Thank you for your cooperation with these matters.
God Bless,
Vincent Riener
Principal
