Camp Klaus
Camp Klaus
Mrs. Julie Hansel, CRMS/CRHS School Counselor
Studies have identified certain “developmental assets” that are important to helping young people grow up healthy, caring and principled. These include positive relationships, opportunities, commitments, values, and competencies. Clayton Ridge High School has identified those assets most in need of enrichment and development among our students.
Selected members of the student body and all sophomores attended a “retreat” to Camp Klaus in Colesburg, Iowa for a day and a half of training by specialists in the areas of leadership, decision-making, self-esteem, coping with difficulties, and mastering motivation. There was no expense to the students.
Camp Klaus is a Boy Scout camp located in a beautiful rural setting of trees, waterfalls and a lake. Use of the camp is free to Clayton Ridge High School as part of an alliance we have formed with the Boy Scouts as we participated in their “Learning for Life" program.
Activities develop leadership, decision-making, self-esteem, controlling controversy, motivation, and will foster camaraderie with fellow students. An Exploring Executive of the Boy Scouts and Clayton Ridge School conducts the classes and activities.
Each year, we look forward to this innovative approach to educating our students in every facet of life. Students prepared meals and “s”mores” around the campfire. We hope to instill some character traits that will be beneficial to them throughout life!

MackinVIA Rocks Our Reading!
Mrs. Deb Henkes, District Technology Integration Coach
Thank you to Mindy Reimer, Keystone AEA Librarian for spending a day at CRMS providing instruction to our middle school students on how to maximize the use of MackinVia to support learning. As a result, CRMS students have been digging into ebooks, audiobooks, read-alongs and more with their laptops. We are planning to expand the introductory MackinVia instruction to our elementary and high school students as well.

Going Digital at Clayton Ridge Elementary!
Mrs. Deb Henkes, District Technology Integration Coach
how to use labels in the Seesaw app or learning how to use Google Drawing to explain important digital citizenship keywords.
Kindergarten through 2nd grade is especially excited to get their very own iPads to use at school for learning activities. They are working really hard to learn how to appropriately take care of their new “best friend” for learning by practicing giving their iPad a ‘hug’ when walking with it and more.
Stay tuned - more exciting technology learning experiences created by our amazing CREL students will be shared soon!

2018 Upper Iowa College Fair
Mrs. Julie Hansel, MS/HS School Counselor
Upper Iowa University welcomed over 250 high school students from eight area school districts to a college fair held on Monday, September 10th at the UIU Recreation Center. Forty-six juniors from Clayton Ridge attended with Mrs. Hansel and Mrs. White. Representatives from nearly 60 colleges, universities, college planning services and military branches were in attendance. The college fair is part of the Iowa College Day/College Night programs sponsored by the Iowa Association for College Admission Counseling (IACAC). Students participated in a campus tour and ate lunch in the dining center.
UIU annually hosts the first in a series of college fairs for area high school students to provide an opportunity to explore post-secondary options and to discuss admission requirements, housing, financial aid, scholarships, internships, and specific majors.
