The Tech Changemakers will also be at the 4-H Foundation Fundraiser on April 30th to provide additional online tools and tips. Visit their booth and complete a survey to help them with this grant project. Through this program the 4-H High school robotics team was able to demonstrate their community outreach and receive an award at their qualifier competition. These sessions are a part of the National 4-H Tech Changemakers program that has a goal to help conquer the digital divide and allow adults to feel comfortable working online. Please contact Melissa Mracek at mmracek2@unl.edu or Bobbi Archibald at bbj.arch@gmail.com for more information.
Community Service Challenge
National Volunteer week is celebrated in April. This year the Panhandle 4-H staff has a goal of reaching 1,000 volunteer hours as a panhandle unit through the month of April. The staff will award the county with the most volunteer hours with a traveling trophy.
In Sheridan County we are going to have a volunteer day of service on Friday, April 15th from 9 am to 3 pm at the Extension Office. Thanks to the help of last year’s LOG N campers and Next Chapter students, we will have multiple activities the youth can choose to participate in. On the 15th youth will have the opportunity to help sew a Quilt of Valor, make May Day baskets for the nursing home residents, create dog toys and treats for the Gordon Animal Shelter, and create Light Up cards. At 4 pm the Albany Club will start their trash clean up. Lunch will be provided. Please contact the Extension Office at (308) 327-2312 by April 8th.
4-H youth may be completing additional community service projects through out April. Help us show how awesome the Sheridan County youth are by completing the attached tracker for every 60 minutes of service you participate in. Submit tracker sheets to the Sheridan County Extension Office or email Melissa at mmracek2@unl.edu or Marie at mnelson82@unl.edu by April 30th.
Speech Contest
The Speech and Public Service Announcement (PSA) contests provide 4-H'ers the opportunity to learn to express themselves clearly, organize their ideas, and have confidence. This is open for all age divisions from Clover Kids to Seniors.
NEW IN 2022 - 4-H Council's have discussed how combining contests will be beneficial for youth to see more youth give their speeches. Dawes and Sheridan will combine alternating locations each year and Box Butte and Sioux will combine alternating locations each year. April 24th at 2:00 pm in RUSHVILLE is set for the Dawes and Sheridan 4-H Public Speaking Contest. Dawes and Sheridan will have separate awards.
Contact the office by April 18th with youth's name, age, and title to their speech at mnelson82@unl.edu or 308-327-2312.
