National Recognition Week honors Police, EMS & Public Works. Police Week honors brave men/women in LE who have lost their lives while serving their communities. We also recognize the tremendous sacrifices that LE officers make for all of us every day. Thank you to the 36 members of the ESPD. We understand the work of 1st Responders because we enjoy movies providing a glimpse of their valuable work. EMS Week brings together local communities + our 34 ESFD personnel to honor the dedication of those who provide day-to-day lifesaving services of medicine's "front line." Public Works is not usually the subject of movies, so I want to introduce our unsung heroes, the 44 PW staff who maintain our built environment - roads, bridges & right/ways, operates our water/wastewater treatment systems w/wells, pump & lift stations, towers, water distribution mains & sewer collection piping; runs trash & recycle collection & disposal services, maintains storm water systems, GIS mapping + data collection systems & operates bus system. Throughout our community you can see the dedication and pride in their work.

The Community Center is re-opening....see website to learn about our changes. We will not activate dues until June. [Funding: Community Center Dues] WHY? Our plans have been approved by the CCPHC, let's do this, safely. Work @ Splash Park is progressing, logo has been selected. [Funding: LWCF Grant, Piccadilly Funds] WHY? Voted most needed amenity by community. Shirewood Sewer project material have been dropped on site. [Funding: CIP] WHY? Prevent homes who are polluting from condemnation due to failed septic. Miller Cabinets has completed the sewer line relocation. [Funding: Private] WHY? Local business expansion improves operation. PW is making concrete repairs, on Spring Street now. [Funding: CIP,TT] WHY? Regular maintenance prevents greater expense/blight. Cemetery spring cleanup complete, ready for Memorial Day. [Funding: Plot Sales, GF] WHY? Showing respect to our families. Superior Springs Pagoda Wall project starts next week.[Funding: CIP] WHY? Retaining wall repairs needed to prevent greater damage. Preliminary calls made to identify potential funding for Dunbar Bridge, west side trail from RR bridge to Walmart, & planning funds for school trails and roadway improvements. WHY? Local funds are not sufficient to make enhancements alone. Airport Volunteers sign liability waivers for replacing runway lights. [Funding: none] WHY? Pilots desire lighted runway and agree to ensure runway stays lit. Revising purchasing policy. WHY? To include new guidelines & simplify process. COE Housing Committee prepared grant application to AARP. WHY? To construct drop-in center @ GSC for Homeless to shower, wash clothes. Received $1M CARES funding from Clay Co. WHY? Aid w/COVID expenses, assembling project list for discussion. Utility bill disconnects are suspended, w/99 accounts on cut-off list; using door hangers to inform account is delinquent, half are making payments, half remain habitually on the list, discussing solutions; w/o disconnects we don't learn when people move out & who needs assistance.

I have lived in Excelsior all my life. The town is rather small so its easy to get to know everyone. There is lots to do & it all is easy to walk to. The new Community Center in town is amazing & a great place to spend your time. We have small local businesses that are personable & can't be found anywhere else.
