Jen McHale is an art therapist and licensed chemical dependency counselor in private practice at Kovacs Counseling located in Columbus, Ohio. Jen has been in practice for 20 years working with all ages in the field of mental health. Her practice focuses on helping individuals develop coping skills to deal with life stressors and life transitions. Creative approaches in therapy can offer individuals a unique approach to help individuals make sense of challenging thoughts and feelings that can otherwise be difficult to express.
Let’s talk tweens turning into teens! Middle school is a transitional time in children’s lives where they are spending more time with their peers unsupervised. Social acceptance, peer pressures, and curiosities about what “older kids are doing” heightens at this impressionable age. Jen will provide an overview of ways parents can protect their child from substance use and misuse. Review “red flags” when mental health concerns need to be more seriously addressed. Jen will share her success as an art therapist in providing creative approaches in empowering children and adolescents to express themselves and strengthen their self-concept.
