WHS Debate Team finished their season strong
Congratulations to the Woonsocket High School Debate Team which finished off its competitive season with its strongest performance to date at the 4th Boston Debate League held at Suffolk University Law School in Boston.
Woonsocket debaters performed exceptionally well both as teams and in the speaker awards category. In the team award category, all four teams placed among the top ten teams of the twenty-six teams in their division. Malachi Mason, debating alone, earned the 9th place award, while Amanda Pieere-Paul and senior Natalia Cusson finished in sixth place overall. Fatou Fall and Melody Robinson took fourth place team, and Darielis Medina and Julian Rivera took the first place team position going undefeated in rounds.
Woonsocket’s performance in the top speaker category was equally impressive, with five of the seven team members making it into the top ten speaker positions. In a field of forty-four debaters Woonsocket’s sophomore Fatou Fall took 10th place, junior Amanda Pierre-Paul took 5th place, sophomore Malachi Mason, 4th place, junior Darielis Medina took 3rd place, and junior Julian Rivera finished in 2nd place. Malachi Mason also received the coach selected Legacy award for Woonsocket.
Congratulations to all debaters for an extraordinary performance for their first year in the Boston Debate League. Special thanks go out to WHS Debate Coach, Mr. Simonini for his guidance and tutelage. Way to go Novans!!

Globe Park Elementary School students recognized for perfect attendance
Recently, Globe Park Elementary School had a perfect attendance celebration. Amazingly, 126 students had perfect attendance in the month of December, exceeding Principal Nichelle Kennell's school wide challenge of 125 students! The next challenge is 150 students! As you are aware, regular attendance is critical to student success. Thank you to the Globe Park students and their families for their commitment to being in school every day! Way to go Gators!!!
WACTC Updates
Digital Media Visits RI PBS
Students in Digital Media visited Rhode Island PBS to tour the station and learn about the industry. The class was present during the filming of RI PBS Weekly and participated in a Q&A with anchors Michelle San Miguel and Pamela Watts. Students then walked over to the Public, Educational and Government (PEG) studios to try their hand at filming their own interview-style program.
Hospitality & Tourism Students Place at ProStart Competition
Hospitality II and III students competed in the RI Hospitality Association and ProStart Hotel Management Competition. Students spent the last few months building a concept hotel from the ground up. All aspects of the hotel from design to theming to marketing were created and presented to judges at the Crowne Plaza in Warwick. Congratulations to Jadielys, Dai-Janae, Janaeya who placed Second in the Competition!
Health Careers Students Meet with Emergency Medicine Doctor
Health Careers II and III students met with guest speaker Dr. John Martindale to learn about his journey to become an Emergency Medicine doctor. Dr. Martindale shared exciting stories about the different injuries and illnesses that come through the ER. He also brought in a portable ultrasound machine and showed the students how to check for circulation in blood vessels. Thanks to NE Basecamp for arranging Dr. Martindale to meet our students!

WED Competencies for Success
WED is proud to share that WACTC Child Studies students were the 1st ever student group to be trained in Academic Teaming by Instructional Empowerment. The focus of the training was to engage students the same as they do teachers in conversations around how the competencies students learn through the Academic Teaming structures will benefit them throughout life and in all professions.
Our goal is for these students to leave WED with their own vision of how to provide rigorous and engaging instructional opportunities for their future students to be independent, critical thinkers instead of dependent, compliant learners. Our hope is that they will return after college to provide those opportunities for students here in Woonsocket.
