Principals' Greeting
Dear Hiteon Community,
We appreciated the time each of you took to attend our parent-teacher conferences. Your children have shown so much growth in various ways throughout this school year. We see this every day whether it be in the classroom as students practice reading strategies, or on the playground when asking others to join a game. Our focus on kindness, academic growth, and responsibility is reflected in Beaverton’s new strategic plan. The words Belong, Believe, and Achieve has been chosen by our community, staff, and students to represent our goals in the Beaverton School District. Taking the opportunity to support our students by attending events such as parent-teacher conferences goes a long way in helping our students learn.
On May 16th we have another opportunity to learn with your students. Hiteon will have its first parent education night for parents of third, fourth, and fifth graders. There will be pizza, free books, and a raffle for prizes. The guest speaker will lead a discussion about having tough conversations between parents and their children. If you have children younger than third grade, you may sign up for childcare. Registration for this event can be found below. We hope to see you there!

This month we will have the Fun Run and the Hiteon Volunteer Tea! Please look for information about these upcoming events from your teachers as well as in ParentSquare. The Fun Run has many opportunities for parents to volunteer to participate and our Volunteer Tea is our way of saying thank you to all of the volunteers that have helped throughout the year. We hope to see you there!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Jenny Read-Emslie, Assistant Principal

Staff Appreciation Week May 8-12
Let's Appreciate our Hiteon Staff!
Let’s take this week to say thank you to our Hiteon Staff for all that they do. Participate in a way that works for you and your family!
Monday - Bring a note to your Teacher – write a note, a thank you card, a poem, write a song, or draw a picture! Whatever you decide, share it with the Hiteon Staff – Specials teachers, Front Office, and the Support Staff LOVE seeing your creativity!
Tuesday - Where’s Coffeegirl will be making beverages in her Sprinter van for our Hiteon Staff. We’ll start the morning off to a great start by bringing them their beverages
Wednesday - Treat your Teacher by bringing them a treat! A “treat” can be a sweet or something they might need for their classrooms/office.
Thursday - Dress for your Teacher – find out what your teacher’s favorite: color, sports team, superhero, clothing brand, or shoe brand, etc. and dress for them.
Friday - Bring a gift for your Teacher – work together as a class or individually and bring a gift. Gifts are as simple as a homemade thank you card with a hug.
If you need some inspiration, go to Hiteon Staff Favorites.

Cell Phone & Smart Watch Policy at School
Please help us ensure that students with their cell phones and smart watches at Hiteon follow the expectations outlined below.
Many students, especially in our older grades, have their cell phones with them. They often use it before or after school to communicate with their families. This is understandable and acceptable.
However, we need to ensure students are NOT using their cell phones or smart watches and calling family during school hours. It is important if a student is not feeling well or needs something brought to school that, those calls go through the main school office.
Cell phones and smart watches may be used on school grounds before school and after school only.
During the instructional day, cell phones must remain out of sight and in silent mode.
If students need to place an emergency phone call during the school day, they should request to go to the main office to use an office phone.
Thank you all for your assistance in reminding your children about only using their cell phones before or after school.

Hiteon's Daily Attendance Schedule
7:45 - Doors open & Cafeteria opens for breakfast
8:00 - School promptly begins
2:35 - Dismissal
Attendance is very important to student success!
According to BSD policy absences that are not medical in nature, such as vacations, will be marked as unexcused absence.
Tardy: School begins promptly at 8:00am.
Students that are not seated at their desk at 8:00am are considered tardy.
Unless they are in the cafeteria having breakfast. Unfortunately, this means that students that are in vehicles in the parking lot are still considered late if they enter the building at 8:01am.
Early Arrival: For your child’s safety, students must NOT arrive at school before 7:45am there is no adult supervision prior to 7:45.
Dismissal: Again, for student safety, all students must be picked up from school at dismissal time 2:35pm. There is no supervision after 2:35. Unless the student is involved in a supervised after-school activity. Students who stay on school property past dismissal of 2:35pm must have parent supervision.

This week was National Bike to School Week
Bike to School Week was all this week and the “Bike Fairy” visited Hiteon on Wednesday and left cool little duck prizes on all the bikes that were at the bike racks. And they're all safe for a ride with their bike helmets on. Thanks Bike Fairy!

Get Ready, Get Set, FUN RUN!!!!
The excitement is building for the 2023 Hiteon Fun Run! The students have already voted for this year's Fun Run T-Shirt design (thanks to Hartman Creative for their amazing logo work!!) to be debuted at the Fun Run kick off assembly on Friday, May 12th.
This year's Fun Run will happen on Thursday, May 25th, and here are some ways that you can help:
- Volunteer - lots of shifts are available on Better Impact for the day of the event. Do you want to greet and direct families on where to go to watch the race? Are you an early bird that wants to help set up the course before school? Do you want to help get the students ready for their race by pinning on their race bibs? We would greatly appreciate your help for an event that provides funds for so many of our school year activities.
- Register - watch for information on how to register your student in the Pledgestar system. Our goal this year is to get at least 75% of the students registered and to earn a fabulous school-wide prize!
- Pledges - once you've registered, share the information with friends, family, neighbors and co-workers. Pledges can be flat amounts or per lap and any amount helps raise funds for our school. Information will be shared in the coming week.
Want more info or interested in joining the Fun Run planning committee? The next Fun Run committee meeting is on Tuesday, May 2nd at 7 pm at the New Seasons in Progress Ridge.
