Family members may attend their student's field day but they must stay in the stands and outside the fence.

Field day is located at the track and field facility and starts at 9:30 with a break for lunch. Students should be ready for a full day outside! Layers for chilly mornings and warm afternoons, sunscreen and especially athletic shoes and clothing. If it is warm enough, one station may involve water (so fun!). Students may want to bring an extra set of clothes that day just in case.

Parents are invited to attend, but be aware this is not a sporting event. We're gathering as a school to have fun and some of the events are a little wacky. We're asking parents to stay on the outside of the track and field fence or in the stands so we have enough room for the students to play.

There are additional opportunities to volunteer in the Field House handing out popsicles and popcorn and helping students apply temporary tattoos. PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS DIFFERENT FROM THE CLASSROOM FIELD DAY VOLUNTEER. THE TIMES ARE THE SAME SO YOU CAN'T DO BOTH. If you are interested in volunteering in the Field House, please sign up here.

Preschool Graduation will be on May 19th. The ceremony will begin at 9:30 am in the Buckeye elementary gymnasium. Please plan to arrive at the school by 9:15 am. Graduation is for preschool students attending kindergarten next year only. All past due tuition fees and late fees must be paid in order for your student to attend graduation.

There will be a preschool end of year playdate to follow the graduation ceremony at 11:00 AM at York Township Park (just north of Route 18 by the FIre Station) Rain or Shine. This is optional for all preschool students. All are welcome! All past due tuition fees and late fees must be paid in order for your student to attend the preschool end of year playdate. The Buckeye Elementary will once again be participating in the Medina County District Library's Summer Reading Game for the students' summer reading assignments. Please follow this link mcdl.info/summerreading to the Summer Reading Game at the Buckeye MCDL.

Friendly reminder to Buckeye parents and guardians: we will not be taking any classroom and/or teacher requests for the 2023-24 school year.

Buckeye PTO along with the 6th Grade Planning Committee have been working very hard to put together a fantastic send off for our 6th Grade students. The send off will be May 22 from 12:00 pm - 3:15 pm on the Buckeye campus. The Kona Ice truck will be on hand from 12-12:30. At 1 pm students will move to the soccer field to enjoy pizza, snacks, goody bags, raffle baskets, music, and a kick ball tournament!

The 6th Grade Recognition Assembly will be held on the last day of school, May 25th at 10 am. It will last approximately one hour. Please limit guests to TWO per student. We ask parents/guardians to take your child home when it is over. If possible, please have your student dress in more formal attire than on a normal school day. We look forward to seeing you at the ceremony!

FIELD DAY - Tuesday, May 16, Wednesday, May 17, and Thursday, May 18. We need help in the Field House handing out popsicles, popcorn, and helping students apply temporary tattoos. Shifts will be broken up to a morning and afternoon shift each day. This is different from a CLASSROOM FIELD DAY VOLUNTEER; however, the times are the same so you can't do both.

In Physical Education class, Grades 1-6 worked to earn their "belts" during our jump rope ninja unit. These students made it all the way to the black belt! Some students earned multiple belts in different categories in Alex Buday, 5th grader, earned his black belt in all three! Way to go!

The mission of Goodyear’s STEM Career Day, is to inform and encourage young people in the formative years (grades 6 through 12) to pursue opportunities, both educationally and professionally, that exist in various science, technology, engineering and mathematics disciplines.

On Saturday, April 29, Mrs. King, Mr. Piehl, Mrs. Abraham, and twenty eight Buckeye sixth-graders met and talked to electrical, mechanical, polymer, chemical, aerospace, and environmental engineers. They also participated in hands-on activities to learn about the day in the life of an engineer.

Our sixth-graders asked amazing questions, formed hypotheses, and learned a lot! One of our teams won the grand prize in the “Goodyear Hands On Activity” against all other teams attending by creating prototypes of an air filtration system to be used in space.

The 3rd graders all enjoyed a unique experience when the Raptors came to visit them. The Raptors are a non profit organization that rescues birds. It is one of the leading raptor rehabilitation centers in Ohio. The birds that are unable to return to nature become ambassadors for their species in public education programs.

They saw a Red Tail Hawk named Val. They are the most common with a wing span of 4 feet. They live in forests and prey mostly on small mammals. The barn Owl is Athena. Owls can eat up to 2,000 mice per year. Live only 2-3 years.

Troop #90248: Kyley Boykin, Kayley McElroy, Adrianna D’Amico, Cora Mercer, Alayna Cook, Julianna Ronsky, Carly Torres, Zoey Hill, Kara Landis, and Lilianna Hernandez.

On Tuesday, March 14 (3.14) the entire sixth grade celebrated Pi Day. Students in Mrs. Abraham and Mrs. Johnston’s classes measured, calculated, drew, colored and researched everything Pi and circle related. The students were even able to trace and calculate the circular area and circumference of an oatmeal pie and then eat it! It was a great time!

Every year, Mrs. King gives her 6th grade Language Arts students a challenge to read 20 books over the course of the school year. The requirement is to read books from 8 different genres as part of the 20 book total. This year, 6th grader Leah Droes, took that challenge to a whole new level. She read not 20, 40, 60, or 80 books, no she met the 20 book challenge five times over! Leah read 100 books over the course of this school year! Congratulations Leah for going above and beyond!

With the slick roads, and construction, sometimes the 8:45 am cut off for the car rider drop off line cannot be met. We do understand that once in a while life happens. If the playground fence is closed during car rider drop off, students are to be brought to the main office by their parents. Even if you see staff walking in, please go to the main office to drop your child off. Do not let them out of the car and open the fence gate. If you have any questions, please call the office for assistance.

We recently have had a large increase in parents changing their students' transportation very late in the day. This causes bus delays as we remove students from the bus, as well as confusion for students and teachers about where students are going. Per the Elementary Handbook Section 4 letter J "All pick up calls to the office should be made by prior to 2:00 pm, please". This is for any change in transportation. Communication that comes in after 2:00 pm will need to be considered on a case by case basis. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Absences can be reported 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, by calling 330-722-8257 ext. 9203. When calling the attendance line, please remember to report the reason your student will be absent. If your child is sick or has an appointment, we ask that you call to report this by 9:30 AM.

Fees have been assessed to student accounts for the 2022-2023 school year.

Student fees are $80 for students Kindergarten through 6th Grade. Fees may be paid by cash or check in the Primary or Intermediate offices. Please make checks payable to Buckeye Local Schools.

Fees may also be paid online via PayForIt.net. Parents will need the student(s) ID number to create an account. This six digit number is your student's lunch ID number and is also found on your student's report card. If you are unable to find the student ID number, or if you have any concerns regarding student fees, please contact the Primary offices at x 4137 or the Intermediate offices at x 4339.

Lunch with milk - $3.00/day. Milk only - $.50 cents/day.

School meals are no longer free this school year. Please check your student's account to ensure it is not in the negative. If you have any questions about your student's lunch account or a Free and Reduced Meals application, please contact Mrs. Carrie Beegle.

Free lunches or lunches at a reduced cost of $.40 cents are available to students who qualify. Free and reduced applications are available and must be returned to the school to determine eligibility. To request an application, please contact Mrs. Bartko at the Primary or Mrs. Fike at the Intermediate.
