School Council
On Monday the school council organised their last significant event planned for their fellow
students. The Halloween Tunnel was set up in a darkened hall, with carpet rolled up and moved aside. Tarps were laid down, tables snaked and weaved around. Black polythene draped and darkened spooky tunnels. Icky slime, cockroaches, spiders, spider webs, body parts lay in wait. Monsters hid ready to pounce, scream or spook. Light sticks gave off an eerie gloom. Background sounds, screams set the scene.
At morning tea time - friendly monsters guided younger students through, while most of the spooky
creatures lay dormant, not so loud and rather friendly. Not all of the young ones made it through
the entire tunnel and had the choice of an early exit. Others conquered fears and survived.
At feeding time (lunch) – the monsters, spooks, critters all woke up to for the full experience for the
brave. The children had lots of laughs, a few tears and in particular I was really impressed with the senior students who chose to play along and enjoy the experience.
Well done to our wonderful group of students who have really worked hard to creates some fun
experiences this year.
Athletics today
Today the Y5/6 athletics team are off to compete at Kensington Park in the interschool event. We
look forward to hearing about your day of high level competition.
Staff First Aid Refresher
On Tuesday night 23 staff members complete their refresher course with Tony. We had a very
interactive, hands on session. As a collective staff some of us have done many first aid refreshers, as required biannually in education. The difference this time was we have come away with some really practical approaches to school, EOTC and general first aid practice. These little tips and tweaks will be added to how we approach first aid at school.
One very pertinent tweak was for concussions, concussion signs and management at school and how we pass students across to parents and or medical staff. We have been given some really helpful guide sheets that will be added to our processes.
I must say this was the best first aid course I have been involved in and believe it has given our staff confidence as first aiders within the school environment.
Well done team.

Planting Day
On Tuesday last week, Rooms 1, 2, 3 and 13 went to the Booth farm. We planted around 2000 plants which was an amazing effort. We learnt a lot about the environment and biosecurity. There was a lot of hard mahi in the sun but it was great giving back to our local community. We all look forward to seeing our planting in the next 5, 10 or 20 years.
Senior Shield Challenge
Senior Shield challenges are in force. The latest challenge was tug of war.
