During the month of December at SIC, we focus on the Character Trait of Generosity - what are ways that we model this trait to our students? How can we show them that giving, without expecting anything in return, is the most fulfilling and rewarding?

Congratulations to our SIC Students with1st Trimester Perfect Attendance!

Students at SIC will be taking the NWEA MAP Winter Benchmark Test on January 17th & 18th. We are excited to see how much our students have grown so far this school year. Please make sure students are in attendance during MAP testing.

Each month we will highlight an easy Math game to play at home using basic items. Practice those Math facts with just a deck of cards by playing the game below!

Join us at SIC on Thursday, January 11th from 6:00 - 7:15 to learn how to have some MATH fun at home! Practice your Math Facts and enjoy some family time together. The first 40 families to RSVP will receive a free Dominoes Kit! Please RSVP to apetrongelli@sd194.org by Dec. 15th.

Students played detective in figuring out which BABY picture belonged to SIC staff members! They were so excited to look for similarities and find out what their favorite teacher looked like as a baby - so cute! Students that had the most guesses correct at each grade level won a cute stuffed animal. Next month we will guess which PETS belong to SIC Staff - woof!!

Hello, SIC families! My name is Mrs. Scheffer and I am proud to say that this is my second year as a learning coach at Steger Intermediate Center. Prior to this, I taught special education for two and half years at a high school in North Carolina. I also taught for seventeen years as a special education teacher at Columbia Central. I always wanted to be a teacher. When I was a kid, I would give my little sister practice spelling tests and read to her like she was my student.

I absolutely love working at SIC! I have a unique opportunity in this position to be able to work with not only students but teachers as well. There are so many great things happening in classrooms here and I am able to support teachers while they implement high impact research-based strategies that help our students learn at high levels. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with so many dedicated teachers and staff who care about kids and make SIC a safe and supportive learning community. I love teaching but I also love learning and I think that I learn as much from the students and teachers here as they learn from me.

I am married to my high school sweetheart who is also a teacher. We live in Indiana with our twin 14 year old daughters. They keep us very active with their sports and other afterschool activities. In our free time, we love to hike and camp while we explore the National Parks. I also enjoy gardening, reading, and live music.

Do you have an aspiring author in your household? Students interested in writing and illustrating an original story can participate in the SIC Young Authors program. Students can meet with Ms. Babiar on January 11th to review their rough drafts. Final Copies are due on February 16th.
