IA Counselor Weekly Update
Junior College Planning Meetings are underway! As we begin the second semester, it is now time to start the college planning process. If you desire, you are invited to schedule one student/parent(s)/guardian(s) appointment or student only appointment as you begin this exciting journey. Families are welcome to join these meetings in person or via google meet (please let us know in advance if you would like to attend via google meet so we can send the link and details).
Juniors - Please have conversations about this process and about your family expectations before we meet and complete the following:
- Review the College Planning Checklist
- Save at least 3 schools in the “Following” section of SCOIR (indicate one likely, one level, and one reach)
- Complete your Career Assessments and save 3 careers in SCOIR
- Use the Net Price Calculator for at least one of your schools and review findings with family.
- Complete the College Planning Form

Are you a senior passionate about mental health?
We’re midway through our search for the next cohort of Mental Health America's Youth Policy Accelerator program. Whether you're a young advocate ready to shake up mental health policy, or you know someone who should be in the room where change happens – here's what you need to know:
This virtual fellowship offers 10 emerging leaders (ages 18-25) the training they need to shape mental health policy, along with opportunities to apply these skills in direct policy action.
- Learn and apply skills in mental health policy, research, and communication.
- Collaborate with policymakers, advocates, and other experts in the field.
- Participate in monthly, virtual meetings from April to December 2025.
- Earn a $3,000 stipend.

Sharon Alexander Scholarship from the Troy Foundation for Educational Excellence
Up to four (4) $2,000 Scholarships for graduating seniors involved in fine arts and/or communications.
The Sharon Alexander Scholarship is offered to up to four graduating TSD seniors who have participated in the fine arts and/or communications in high school and who have plans to continue such involvement in college, whether as a major or as an avocation. The Troy Community Lions will once again be offering two $1000 college scholarships to graduating seniors. Preference will be given to seniors who reside in Troy, have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and plan to attend college in September 2025.
I have attached a copy of the Troy Community Lions college scholarship application form. Please note that the attached application is NEW this year. The Troy Community Lions website has been updated. The current address is e-clubhouse.org/sites/troy_community/
Also, students may request an application by email at TCLSEC@comcast.net or by visiting the Troy Community Lions website “Contact Page” at e-clubhouse.org/sites/troy_community/ (providing their name, phone number, email address and a message requesting the college scholarship application form). An application will be emailed directly to the student. Completed applications must be received by March 15, 2025.
