February is national Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month, let’s celebrate it together! During February, the CTE community celebrates CTE Month® to raise awareness of the role that CTE has in preparing students for careers and college. It is also a time to recognize and celebrate the CTE community members’ achievements and accomplishments nationwide. Led by a variety of CTE groups and spearheaded by the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE), the month is organized around a different theme each year.

Want to learn More about CTE? NC Department of Public instruction has even more information about CTE efforts offered throughout the State as well as the CTE Course Management System where you can learn the pathways, courses, and industry recognized credentials available in NC public schools. NC Community Colleges also offers CTE programs through their network of 58 community colleges throughout the state.

Hello! I am an Onslow County native. I graduated from Southwest High School in 1998. I have two living children. Tyler (2006) and Joshua (2009). My first son Dylan passed away when he was 13 weeks old in 2004. At the time I was working in marketing and advertising and decided to become a teacher in order to help other children.

I am certified in Business, Marketing and Technology Education and I have taught a variety of courses in each of those areas since beginning my teaching career in 2005. I am excited to be a part of the Eastern North Carolina Regional Skills Center.

ROBOTICS I - ENGINEERING: Will robots take over the world? Probably not, but robots are everywhere. You will learn what makes robots work and how they function to make our lives easier. This course focuses on engineering concepts including physics, programming, mechanical systems, and electrical and electronics systems.

The Eastern North Carolina Regional Skills Center is an integrated educational and employment resource that prepares students for high-value, in-demand career pathways and post-secondary options through advanced training and skill development.

ROBOTICS II - ENGINEERING: Continue your robot building and programing skills with Advanced C Programming. You will complete projects that include giving your robot creations purpose by designing their functionality.

"In Robotics I and II, students learn how to program using two different robots and two programming languages. Students build and program VEX robots using C++ and BoeBots using PBASIC. Using their programming skills, students robots will be able to complete a variety of challenges and determine the torque and velocity of their robots. I love teaching robotics because it allows students to show off their creativity while programming robots to meet the specified criteria in the design briefs. I am looking forward to the new classes we will be offering in the 23-24 school year, Advanced Manufacturing I and Manufacturing Robotics. Students will gain an in-depth understanding of the manufacturing process and how robots are used in the manufacturing process."

Our programs consist of TWO 9-week courses each semester. Students are with us for two class periods per day, either in the morning or in the afternoon. Daily attendance is imperative as each day = 2 actual classes at the Skills Center. Please reach out if you have questions about our schedule or your student's attendance.

The importance of communication between school and home cannot be overstated. Research shows that students with engaged families earn higher grades and test scores, adapt more quickly, attend school more regularly, have better behavior and social skills, and go on to graduate at higher rates. Parents who have an idea of what is happening in the classroom are better equipped to help their students succeed and can align learning at home with learning at school.
