Exploring Professional Learning Communities Study Session
Carla Lobos, Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services, briefed the Board on the vital aspects of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). This encompassed key concepts, monitoring strategies, and our district's steadfast commitments to PLCs.
Board members engaged in table discussions with representatives from Columbia River Elementary, Curie STEM Elementary, and Maya Angelou Elementary. These discussions focused on how PLCs address student learning, strengths of the process, challenges faced, and the greatest benefits.
High School Boundary Process: Primary Boundary Map Presentation
Jake Stueckle, PSD Director of Secondary Instruction Services, updated the Board on our district's progress in establishing new boundaries for our comprehensive high schools.
Mr. Stueckle discussed the timeline and guiding principles that underpin the creation of new boundaries. He then presented draft boundary scenarios. These scenarios are currently undergoing community review and feedback through in-person feedback sessions and an online interactive survey.
Following the collection of initial feedback from both the online survey and in-person sessions, we will integrate changes and introduce new versions of the scenarios. Our intention is to go through at least three feedback cycles, with updated scenarios open for community feedback on February 28 and March 28.
Please visit the PSD Boundary website to view a full listing of community feedback opportunities or take our online interactive High School Boundary survey.
State of the Schools Reviews
Mira Gobel, Assistant Superintendent of Schools & Social Emotional Learning, presented insights into the background and purpose of the upcoming State of the Schools Reviews. During the presentation, she proposed changes in meeting formats, emphasizing a shift to include both individual and group presentations.
Mrs. Gobel sought input from the board regarding the content of these presentations. She asked for guidance on the information the board wants to see during individual and small group State of the School presentations.
