Child ID Kits
Iowa school districts were provided at-home child ID kits from the Iowa Attorney General’s office in partnership with the National Child Identification Program, Alliant Energy, and MidAmerican Energy. Across America, 1,000 children go missing on average every day.
West Des Moines Community Schools (WDMCS) will have these kits this school year. You can request a kit from your student’s front office.
Should you decide to complete this kit with your child(ren), it should take less than two minutes. The information never enters a database and should be stored solely by you, as a parent/guardian, in a cool, dry, safe place at home.
There is no obligation to take or fill out the kit. However, it will allow you to have your child(ren)’s vital information, fingerprints, and DNA in a safe place should the unimaginable happen. Please store these kits at home and only give them to law enforcement in an emergency.
The fingerprint kits are not sponsored by WDMCS, but we want to help make them available to WDMCS families. Student safety remains a top priority for us.
2023-24 Fee Payment Update
Not all fees are currently available to pay yet, but you should receive an update within the next week with information on how to pay fees for the 2023-24 school year. Thank you for your patience!
If you believe you qualify for fee waivers, fee waiver forms must be filled out every year. Please visit discover.wdmcs.org/feewaivers. Families can contact their building principal if financial assistance is needed.
Second Annual Tiger Gala
The Tiger Gala is the largest annual fundraiser for the WDMCS Foundation to support grants and scholarships for innovation in education for all 13 schools. Join us for a fun evening of live music, great food, and fun as we raise money to support WDMCS initiatives.

WDMCS To Use TalkingPoints Text Tool
WDMCS is now using a new tool called TalkingPoints as a way to connect with parents/guardians. This tool provides a way to connect with families through two-way, translated communication.
Families receive a text in their primary language. They can respond in their primary language, and it is translated back into English for the teachers and staff to read.
Each staff member who uses this tool will have a unique phone number that will come through in a text. Please do not block these numbers. It will help teachers and staff briefly connect with parents/guardians without relying only on email and/or phone calls.
