Dime Wars started this week! This is a Homecoming competition for each grade level, K-12. The grade level who raises the most money wins a pizza party. All of the money raised will benefit P.K.’s Dance Marathon event in February 2017. Dance Marathon is an organization established by University of Florida students. The organization sponsors a dance as the culminating event to a yearlong fundraising initiative benefiting children and families at UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital who cannot afford the medical care they receive. All monies raised from Dime Wars K-12 will go towards our Dance Marathon grand total.

Supporting Your Student
Click on the following quick video to learn about 4/5's approach to "homework".
Reading:
Read a “just right” text for a total of 150 minutes per week.
For questions you can ask your student as they read their book, click here.
Math:
Fourth Grade is currently working in Unit 2. Unit 2 focuses on creating and interpreting line plots. For more information on the math concepts taught in this unit, click here.
Fifth Grade is continuing to work in Unit 1. We are currently focused on multiplying two-digit by two-digit numbers (by using the array method or breaking numbers apart) and the order of operations. Try asking your student what PEMDAS stands for! For more information on the math concepts taught in this unit, click here.
Science:
Optional Home Investigations can be found here.
Writing:
We have recently began a new unit in Expository Nonfiction Writing.
Have your child read their writing out loud to you from their Expository Nonfiction journal.
A Unit 3 tutorial video will be coming home shortly explaining the unit and how you can support your writer at home!
