Bogota Middle School Update
October 6, 2023
The week was full of activities that highlighted respect and character development. We hope to take what we have learned during the Week of Respect and build on it throughout the school year! We will be having workshops for parents and assemblies for students in the future that discuss bullying and using technology in a safe manner.
Thank you to our students for your participation this week. Thank you to our wonderful staff for putting together a memorable and meaningful week.
A few important reminders:
- Students should only be wearing their gym clothes on gym days- not dance class days. Sweatshirts should be solid colors and logos should not be on any clothing.
- Remind your child to charge their Chromebook each night and bring in each morning.
- Please make sure that your child is on time each morning.
- Cellphones are not to be used by students for any reason in school. They need to be in bookbags or lockers for the entire day and can only use upon exiting the building.
I greatly appreciate everyone's understand and cooperation. It is hard to believe how quickly September has gone!
Should you ever have a question or concern, please call or email me.
Sincerely,
Mr. Albiez
BMS Principal
A Look Back at the Week
Week of Respect Kick Off
New York Times Best Selling Author and 3-Time National Book Award Finalist!
Thank you to Mrs. Del Rosso and Mrs. Tomlinson for taking the initiative in making this visit happen! The art club, led by Nurse Mulder, also created welcoming posters for Mr. Sheinkin.
7th Grade Language Arts Week of Respect Project
Using resources from PACER's National Bullying Prevention Center, Mrs. Tomlinson's 7th grade ELA students completed several activities during the Week of Respect. First, they completed a Bullying 101 Webquest in order to learn more about the definition of bullying, types of bullying, roles played in a bullying scenario, and statistics related to how often bullying occurs. Then, students watched videos that presented them with different bullying scenarios that occur in middle school settings, and were presented with different options for responding to these scenarios. They were challenged to think critically about and reflect on the most appropriate self or peer advocacy responses. For a culminating task to wrap up what they have learned, students will be creating comic strips that promote discussion around one of the different forms of bullying in more detail.
Lunch and Art Activities
Students posted respectful comments on our lobby wall during lunch and participated in an anti-bullying project during art class outside.
