Our testing wraps up early next week and I would like to send a heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped facilitate the state and AP tests that occurred throughout our schools. I would also like to congratulate our staff and students on their cooperation, flexibility, and diligence throughout the testing. You are appreciated!

Over the past two weeks, our schools have also been filled with music and art! Our staff and students truly shined, sharing with us their time and talents and spotlighting our students' love of and appreciation for the arts. The spring concerts and art shows have been both enjoyable and inspiring and we look forward to the few remaining concerts scheduled for later this week.

Finally, I want to wish everyone a healthy and happy Memorial Day weekend. As a reminder, our schools are closed from Thursday, May 26th through Monday, May 31st. At its heart, Memorial Day is a day to solemnly honor all men and women who have died in U.S. military service. Over the weekend, please take a moment to honor the men and women who died while serving our country.

TPS invites you to submit a personal unique work of art or writing that interprets the Islamic proverb: "It takes a lot of different flowers to make a bouquet." Submit all entries to the Tenafly Board Office at 500 Tenafly Road. Entries should be labeled “Attention: Mrs. Heidi Chizzik" and must include name, address, phone number, name of school, and grade on a separate card or piece of paper. All submissions are due by Tuesday, May 31st at 3 pm. No late submissions will be accepted. For complete details, visit the TPS Website. Join us as we celebrate diversity through art, literature, music and more! Learn how to make crafts from around the world, hear stories of diversity and acceptance, and celebrate our differences! Mark your calendars for Tuesday, June 7th at 6:30pm in the Tenafly Middle School gym. We hope to see you there!

It's official! Wishtree, author Katherine Applegate will help launch our One Book, One Community at the Celebration of Diversity event! Be one of the first 150 people to pick up the book at our June 7th celebration and join in this amazing event!

Join us as we come together to discuss the themes and messages in the text, including diversity, empathy, inclusion, acceptance and community. Author Katherine Applegate is excited for Tenafly to be highlighted as an “All Are Welcome Here” community.

Learn about Asian Pacific American Heritage Month and the countries represented through our interactive classroom and virtual tours. Tours of new countries will be added throughout the month. This week, visit the Philippines!

Did you know that our schools compete for the Tenafly Cup and Masters Cup at the TEF 5K Run, Dog Walk, and Fun Run? Sign up now and share in the excitement! Can't run or walk that entire 5K? Sign up for the Fun Run and finish in style! Registration is open now! Kickoff for the event starts Friday night, June 3rd, continues on Saturday with a free to registrants and their families Pasta Party, and concludes on Sunday with the run. Students in the THS Art Club and drawing classes under the supervision of Lisa Allen created a new masterpiece for Tenafly's Volunteer Fire Department. A conference table that features the town's antique 1920 American LaFrance pumper housed at the station and often seen in local parades and events throughout the area. To commemorate the completed artwork, the firemen invited the student artists to the station for a celebration of pizza, chicken nuggets, and cupcakes. Allen along with eight of the student artists joined the firemen to share how they got involved with the project and worked on the table together. Nicely done THS!

Congratulations to THS senior Kareem Ahmed who quite literally earned first place in the Stock Market Game™, an online simulation of the global capital markets. THS teacher Rachel Barker entered her class into the regional event where Ahmed placed first out of 2,648 participants, earning a 225% return on his investment. For his financial wizardry, Ahmed received a medal, t-shirt, banner, and certificate, and a plaque designed and donated by Barker.

Each year, our district builds several snow days into the school calendar. At the April 25th BOE Meeting, the Board voted to approve changing the 2021-2022 school district calendar to give back an unused snow day, making Thursday, May 26th a Schools Closed day and Friday, May 27th a District Closed day. The website calendar has been updated.

Tenafly Recreation Tigers Junior Football teams are looking for volunteer coaches for the Fall 2022 football season for grades 3rd-8th. Join our Football Coaches Clinic on Monday, May 23rd at 6pm-Tenafly High School hosted by THS Head Coach Peter Toale. Please share this with anyone you think would be interested! Thank you.

The members of the Tenafly Elk's Lodge invite any organized groups in Tenafly to join them in this year's Memorial Day Parade, Monday, May 30th. They ask that everyone assembles on George St. facing south towards Westervelt Ave. at 9:30AM with kick-off at 10:00AM. If possible, carry a banner or sign identifying your group. Please advise them if your group can participate by e-mailing Maureen Quinn at mquinn@co.bergen.nj.us or mquinny2@gmail.com or call 201-803- 9430. Participants are invited to join them after the parade ceremonies for refreshments and hot dogs at the Lodge located at 20 Franklin St.
