Longacre Weekly News
September 28, 2020
Dear Longacre Families,
I hope you and your families are well and enjoying the beautiful fall weather we've been having. I have two things I would like to highlight this week.
1. Social Emotional Learning STUDENT CHECK IN SURVEY
The health and safety of our students is very important to our Longacre Staff. We understand that this year is very different from what we are used to and many of our friends and classmates may be having a hard time. Our school can offer various forms of support, but we can’t know how to help, unless we know how you are doing. To help us identify students in need of support, we are administering a brief student wellness survey three times this year. Survey responses will be used to connect students with appropriate resources, including social emotional staff support. Your responses will be kept private and will be seen by our social emotional learning staff to help get students the help they need.
Please complete the survey link below by Friday, October 2nd. If you have any questions or do not want your child to participate in the student wellness survey, please contact our school psychologist, Mrs. Wank, at susan.wank@fpsk12.net , or our school social worker, Ms. Walker, at amanda.walker@fpsk12.net or your classroom teacher.

Any family who is unable to pick-up the materials on Friday, October 2nd can stop by the main office during the week of October 5th between 8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Please ring the front office door bell and our office staff will bring the kit out to you.

Rise & Shine- Modified Program Opportunity
Our Physical Education teacher, Mr. Thompson, is offering modified Rise and Shine program sessions. It has been very successful and the students are really enjoying it! He offers two mixed age-group sessions each Friday. The program will be similar in design to our Rise and Shine morning program except it is outside with social distancing.
Content will include a wide range of physical activity including lots of high energy locomotor races and movement puzzles designed to build whole-body strength and cardiovascular fitness. Each session will be offered to students in First through Fifth Grade. The class size will be limited to 40 students (first come, first serve) and the sessions will be conducted on the soccer field adjacent to our school parking lot.
The sessions will be at the following times on Fridays:
11:00-11:40
12:30-1:10
Participants will need to sign up in advance at: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/805084EA8AE2CA1FF2-rise
Here are the guidelines for participating:
Participants may arrive 5 minutes before each session begins.
Participants should wear weather-appropriate clothing.
Wear shoes that are appropriate for damp morning grass.
Students must wear a mask while participating and adhere to social distancing guidelines.
Participants should bring their own water bottle.
Parents are responsible for transporting their child to and from the program. Please arrive for drop-off and pick-up promptly.
Due to the program being conducted outdoors, we will need to cancel if there is inclement weather. Should this occur, we will send an email out the morning of the sessions.
Dining Days Out
Dining Days Out:
Each year, the Longacre PTA hosts different events to assist in raising funds for the school. One such fundraiser is called Dining Days Out. Typically, this entails having families, friends and neighbors dine in, or get carry out, at local restaurants on a designated night each month. The restaurants would then donate a portion of the proceeds back to the PTA. These proceeds are used to help fund activities, provide special assemblies, and purchase additional supplies for classrooms.
This year, Dining Days Out is going to be a bit different. We are still partnering with local restaurants but instead of dining in we will be hosting a carry out version of the fundraiser each month. If you are comfortable with ordering carry out, please consider participating in the fundraising event while supporting local restaurants as well.
The first Dining Days Out (carry out edition) will take place at Silver Dairy (32323 Grand River Avenue, Farmington, MI 48336) on Saturday, September 26 from 3:30-9:30 p.m. Enjoy a sweet treat while supporting the Longacre PTA. Just mention Longacre and Silver Dairy will donate a portion of the proceeds back to the school!
Upcoming Dining Days Out Dates:
- Saturday, September 26: Silver Dairy (3:30-9:30 p.m.)
- Monday, October 19: Basement Burger Bar
- Tuesday, November 17: Bellacino's (11:00-8:00 p.m.)
