The collection will take place from February 24 - March 6. Collection bins will be placed by the office. Help us reach our goal of collecting 4000 books! See the flyer in the virtual backpack for more details.

Grove Gala: Community Connections
At Oak Grove, our Mission & Beliefs do not stop at our front door -- they extend to the broader community around us. We want to ignite passion, see children thrive, and maximize their potential in other schools as well because that makes the world a better place for all of us.
Not all schools are able to drive incremental funding through Galas such as this one. This year, we are proud to include an additional fundraising initiative for Thomas Jefferson Middle School in Waukegan and the Zion Elementary School District 6. Please bring a book (or books!) to donate to these schools and you will receive a FREE raffle ticket. In addition, you can contribute to the Spirit Toss and additional specified monetary donations to support these literacy programs.
This fundraising initiative does not impact our fundraising for Oak Grove - it is completely optional, separate, distinct and accretive.
You can learn more about these schools and their literacy initiatives here: https://www.ogsef.org/gala-2020-community-connections.html

Curriculum Corner
Now that the holiday season is behind us and we are back in the daily routine of school, work, and activities, it might seem like our students are balancing a lot and feeling overwhelmed. Just like a truck that drives slower with additional weight, students can feel that same burden with a lot of tasks to do. It is important for us to remember that in order to build resilience in our students - we have to support them with love, affection, and attention, in addition to setting clear limits. By modeling health habits for our young learners as we balance our stress, we can teach our children those same coping strategies to help them navigate their busy lives. Here is a link from Harvard University - Center on the Developing Child for more information on moving “from surviving to coping to resilience."
