Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, the District showed this video at the September 20, 2022, Board of Education Meeting. The video highlights not only the achievements of Hispanic-Latino individuals but also student voices of ABCUSD middle-schoolers.

Hispanic Heritage Month Student Contest

ABC 6th-12th grade students are encouraged to enter the Hispanic Heritage Month student contest. This contest is brought to you by the ABCUSD Hispanic-Latino Family Circle and the Equity Office, which asks students to create original poetry or a 250-word essay honoring the rich cultural Hispanic heritage, traditions, historical figures, and lived experiences. One winner from the 6th, 7th-8th, and 9th-12th grade student groups will receive a $50 prize. Learn more about the contest and enter here.

Warning - Rainbow Fentanyl

Brightly-colored fentanyl, also called rainbow fentanyl, is a new trend in the state and nation. It can be found in many forms, including pills, powder, and blocks that can resemble sidewalk chalk or candy. This drug is highly potent and dangerous. ABC Adult School Open House, Craft & Fitness Fair

Do some early holiday shopping at the Open House, Craft & Fitness Fair at the ABC Adult School Cabrillo Lane campus on Wednesday, October 12, 2022. The fair, running from 10:00 a.m. to noon, is free and open to all. If you’d like to be a vendor, contact the Cabrillo Lane campus at (562) 229-7960, ext. 25200.

StudentCam 2023

Charter/Spectrum has partnered with C-SPAN for a unique student competition. StudentCam asks students in grades 6-12 to create a short (5-6 minute) video documentary on a topic related to the competition theme, "If you were a newly elected member of Congress, which issue would be your first priority and why?" Burbank Elementary Receives Donation

LBS Financial Credit Union supported Burbank Elementary School by donating school and PE supplies. LBS volunteers dropped off the donated items last week to thrilled students and staff. Thank you to LBS Financial Credit Union for your continued support of ABCUSD students and schools.

ABC Nurses Continue Learning

Learning never ends in ABCUSD - even for our nurses! Last week, our team of nurses traveled to Biola University to use their simulation lab to review and practice catheterization techniques. Professional learning opportunities like this keep our nurses ready to assist students and staff throughout the school year.

Marc Stirdivant Scholarship for Justice 2022

The Tuna Canyon Detention Station, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the history of the Tuna Canyon Detention and illuminating the U.S. government’s World War II incarceration of Japanese, German, and Italian immigrants and others at the Tuna Canyon Detention Station, is holding the Marc Stirdivant Scholarship for Justice 2022 contest. This art and essay scholarship is open to all 9th to 12th-grade students. Participating students can win up to a $500 scholarship. Learn more about the scholarship at www.tunacanyon.org.
