We hope your students are filled with things to talk about when they come home from school! Here are some great questions to ask your child throughout the week to get them talking about their day of learning...
- Tell me about the best part of your day.
- What were the kindest words someone said to you today? How did you respond?
- What were the kindest words YOU said to someone today?
- Did you try anything completely new today? Tell me about it!
- Did you have to think hard about anything today? What was it?
- Did you make any mistakes today? What were they and what did you learn?
- Is there something you would like to be better at? What could you do to make that happen?
- What's the biggest difference between this year and last year?
- What are you excited to learn about this year?

Traffic Safety...
Student safety is our priority during drop off and dismissal. In an effort to make sure that every child is safe coming to school and leaving school, we are asking our community to do the following during morning drop off and afternoon pick up times:
Drop off and Pick Up Procedures:
- Drop off your child early starting at 7:35 a.m.
- If driving, park in the neighborhood and walk your child to the entrances
- Or drop off/pick up curbside. Drivers stay in your car and continue to go straight, no U-Turns/3- point turns in the middle of the street!
- Students should be dropped off on the school side to avoid crossing the street. For students crossing the street, please use the crosswalk at the corner intersection and do not cross in the middle of the road.
The following traffic violations will be cited by San Diego Police:
- Illegal U-Turns
- Using the neighbor’s driveway to make an illegal U-Turn or 3-point turns
- Double Parking
- Parking in loading zones
- Waiting/blocking red zones and driveways
- Jaywalking when vehicles are on the road and it is not safe to do so
If you are interested in working together to improve the safety of our school, we are always looking for adult volunteers to help. Traffic volunteers will work closely with Jones Staff to enhance safe ways for students to enter and exit school during morning drop off and afternoon pick up. Our San Diego School Police will provide additional training and support so that we can work together as a school community to keep our children safe. If you are interested in volunteering, please email Jenna Greif at jgreif@sandi.net.
Did you know...
We added a new bike rack outside by Gate D. Students or adults riding their bikes to campus are welcome to use it. We recommend using a bike lock for security.
We also have bike racks inside our secure campus on the other side of Gate D. Students can walk their bike or scooter through the morning C Gate all the way to the racks before heading to their classroom.
We also have a Lost & Found! Items left behind on campus will be brought here. We recommend labeling sweatshirts, jackets, water bottles, and lunch boxes with your child's first and last name so they can find them easily.
Meet our counselor...
I am Ms. Vu, your School Counselor. I am thrilled to be part of the Serra Mesa Community! I grew up within the San Diego Unified School District. With that said, I am SO excited to serve students and families in our district!
I have been working closely with children and adolescents for several years. As the School Counselor, I am here to foster students' social-emotional, academic, and career growth to be successful. Collaborating with students, families, staff, administration, and community members is an integral part of my efforts to support students and their diverse needs.
Outside of my passion for empowering students, I love running, dirt bike riding, exploring different cultural food, hiking, and playing with my dachshund!
Students can request to meet with me or be referred by a teacher, administrator, or parent/guardian. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns about your child; my door is always open. I am looking forward to an excellent school year!
