CARES corner
At Fair Oaks, we believe in CARES!
Cooperation
Assertion
Responsibility
Empathy
Self Control
The Fair Oaks team works hard to create a united community that utilizes CARES to support all students in their learning! Students can earn badges for demonstrating CARES behavior. If your student comes home wearing a CARES badge sticker, please ask them about it!
***PARENTS OF OUR FALCON LEADERS ARE INVITED TO JOIN US AT OUR ALL SCOOL ASSEMBLY ON FRIDAY MORNING, OCTOBER 13TH AT 9:40AM! PLEASE CHECK IN AT THE OFFICE WHEN YOU ARRIVE!
Meet your Falcon Leaders!
Every year, 5th graders have the opportunity to take on a leadership role in the school by participating in Falcon Leaders. This is a small group lead by Ms. Sather and Mrs. Carlson that will meet once a week on Fridays during lunch. During our weekly meetings, the students will discuss leadership projects they would like to complete around the school that model CARES (Cooperation, Assertion, Responsibility, Empathy, Self-Control) for the younger students. Students applied to be Falcon Leaders and had their first meeting on Friday 9/29. If your child or a child you know has joined Falcon Leaders, please acknowledge their service when you see them! We can't wait to see what they will accomplish this year!

Student meals and educational benefits
MINNESOTA FREE SCHOOL MEALS BILL
All students from kindergarten through 12th grade in Minnesota schools will now be provided free breakfast & lunch each school day.
Fill out your Educational Benefits Application today - the benefits go beyond meals!
Beginning September 2023, all Minnesota K-12 students attending school in person will have a free breakfast and lunch available to them each academic school day due to the state’s recently passed Free School Meals For Kids bill. However, it’s still important for families to fill out the Educational Benefits Application to take advantage of several other benefits available to families who meet income requirements, including free or discounted costs for the following:
- Field trips
- Clubs, activities and athletics
- ACT, SAT and AP fees
- Comcast internet for home
- Membership discounts at SNAP Fitness
- Xcel Energy account assistance for electricity bills
Additionally, the state of Minnesota uses a school district’s percentage of qualifying students to calculate each district’s funding level. School district funding impacts every student:
- Class sizes
- Number of support staff the district can hire to help scholars (counselors, social workers)
- Extra programming opportunities
Please fill out the Educational Benefits Application today to make sure your family can take advantage of these and other benefits! To bypass creating an account you can simply fill out an application at the following link ….https://bit.ly/3hWdk7Q.
Please reach out to the Nutrition Services team with any questions. Contact Julie Moberg at MobergJ@district279.org or 612-391-7129.

Notes from the nurse
Dear Fair Oaks families,
We have been experiencing an increase of illness at school. Below are helpful tips for when students should remain at home to help avoid the spread of illnesses.
Please consider keeping your child home if they show signs of: (consider calling your child’s primary physician’s office to assist you with any questions or concerns)
· Earache, ear drainage
· Stomachache, nausea
· New or Persistent cough
· Runny nose and/or nasal congestion
· Unidentified/Suspicious skin rash
· Headache
· Sore throat
· Pink eye (conjunctivitis) in one or both eyes, especially if they are unable to remember to not touch their eye and to wash their hands after touching their eyes
Students must stay home if they are experiencing:
· Vomiting, or diarrhea (must be vomiting or diarrhea free for 24 hours before returning to school)
· Oral temperature of 100.0 degrees or higher (your child must be fever free for 24 hours, without the use of medication (Tylenol or Ibuprofen) before your child returns to school)
· If diagnosed with strep throat, your child may return after taking the prescribed antibiotic for 12 hours and has been fever free after 24 hours (if they had a temperature over 100.0)
· Live Lice, students cannot return to school until treated for lice (medication can be purchased at any Target, Walmart, Walgreens, etc.) When your child returns to school, the nurse must check your child’s hair for any signs of live lice
***If your child needs medication for fever or discomfort in the morning, please do not send them to school that day. We appreciate your cooperation!
