Pierce County follows mask removal mandate; masks optional March 21
The Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department (TPCHD) today announced they will follow Gov. Inslee’s timeline and lift the indoor mask requirement for Pierce County on March 21. While the mandate will end, TPCHD continues to recommend that students and staff wear masks in schools until outbreaks decline and vaccination rates improve.
Note: Federal law still requires masks on school buses.
SBLSD will not tolerate bullying of any kind based on the choice to wear or not wear a mask. We will be working with our labor partners to make sure we address health and safety concerns given the new guidance.
If you have questions or concerns about removal of the mask mandate, please contact TPCHD:

Calendar info: Last day of school, key dates
Last day of school
We know this is a popular question. We are working with stakeholders to finalize when we will make up the day of school missed due to inclement weather. We will communicate plans as soon as they are confirmed. Thanks for your patience and please stay tuned!
Future key dates
To help families plan well in advance for childcare or activities surrounding school holidays and breaks, here are key dates for the next two school years. We will add more events as dates are finalized.
- Key dates: 2022-23 school year
- Key dates: 2023-24 school year
One hundred days smarter
This past week, students celebrated being 100 days smarter after reaching the milestone of the 100th day in school. Hats, T-shirts and dressing up as centenarians were a part of the festivities.
Having fun with 2/22/22
All it takes is a palindrome on a “Twosday” to create fun for students and staff. On Tuesday, Feb. 22, we saw tacos, twins and tutus. When you write the date 2/22/22, it’s a palindrome, which means it reads the same forward and backward.
BLHS’ Aaron Radford named District 3 Athletic Director of the Year
Congratulations to Bonney Lake High School Athletic Coordinator Aaron Radford, who has been named West Central District 3 Athletic Director of the Year! Nominated by his peers, Aaron was selected among fellow athletic coordinators/directors from 70 schools. He goes on to vie for the title of State Athletic Director of the Year at the Washington State Secondary Athletic Administrators Association conference in April.
We’re rooting for this Sumner Spartan alum who’s been a Bonney Lake Panther staff member for five years. In Aaron’s career of 25 seasons as a head coach, he appreciates the hard work and dedication of coaches and students while participating in athletics as well as in the classroom. His goal for the BLHS Athletic Department is to focus on developing athletes with character and providing student-athletes with opportunities to grow and learn about themselves through their participation in sports.
