2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR INTENT TO RETURN
In order to meet the needs of all of our students, we are hard at work planning learning options for the 2021-2022 school year. To help us plan for next school year, we are asking all families to complete an Intent to Return for all students by Friday, May 28, 2021.
This process is completed in the MISTAR Parent Portal. Your responses will be used to plan for next year. Please follow the steps below to complete your intent for EACH child enrolled in the Oak Park School District.
- Log in to Parent Portal. Your username is an assigned number. If you need assistance with your login credentials, please select the Need Your Login Information? option below the PIN and Password field. This will prompt you to supply your email address and your PIN and Password will be emailed to you.
- Click on "Intent to Return" link at the top of the page.
- Select “Update/Confirm Now” under each Student.
- Fill out the required fields within "Intent to Return".
- Click the "Submit" button at the top.
- Repeat for each student in your home.

Welcome to Oak Park High School. This is your invitation to our 9th Grade Virtual Open House. Open House is an exciting and informative evening for parents and students to begin the transition process to Oak Park High School. CONGRATS RABBI ELIMELECH GOLDBERG!
Rabbi Elimelech Goldberg, Director of Kids Kicking Cancer was named the winner of Hometown Health Hero award for 2021. This award recognizes individuals and organizations across the state working tirelessly to maintain and improve the health of their local communities. The Hometown Health Hero award is a major part of the Public Health Week in Michigan.
Headquartered in Southfield, Kids Kicking Cancer has partnered with Oak Park Schools for the past two years bringing the Hero’s Circle to second and third graders Kids Kicking Cancer uses martial arts therapy to help children fighting cancer and other serious illnesses by empowering them and providing a sense of power, peace and purpose.
NAACP CREATIVE SOLE SCHOLARSHIP POWERED BY VANS
The Creative Sole Scholarship powered by Vans is awarded annually by NAACP to college students majoring in creative fields including art, architecture, English, journalism, music, communications, design, marketing, and photography.
Scholarship amount: $5,000
Number of awards: 50
The award is renewable for 4 years upon condition of your ability to maintain a GPA of 2.7 or higher.
ELIGIBILITY
Applicants to the NAACP Creative Sole Scholarship, powered by Vans must:
- Be a member of the NAACP. If you are not a member of the NAACP, join today.
- Be African American and a resident of the U.S.
- Be currently enrolled full-time or accepted to an accredited college or university in the US.
- Be a graduating high school senior or undergraduate student.
- Possess a grade point average of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 system.
- Major in a creative field including art, architecture, English, journalism, music, communications, design, marketing, and photography.

Open Date: May 20, 2021
Close Date: June 18, 2021 at 6 p.m. ET. Applications received after 6:00 PM ET on the application close date will not be considered.
Review Period Closes: July 30, 2021
Award Notices: August 9, 2021
Award Disbursed: August 13, 2021- August 20, 2021
Applications are reviewed and scored by the N-SPIRE Committee, NAACP leaders who volunteer their time to read applications, review transcripts, and select recipients for approval. If selected, you will be notified through the N-SPIRE scholarship portal. Decisions of the selection committee are final and cannot be appealed.

COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY SUMMER IMMERSION PROGRAM
As the 2021 school year comes to a close, Columbia University is offering a Summer Immersion program for high schoolers (grades 9-12). Admissions will be reviewing applications for Session 2 (July 20–August 6) and Session 3 (August 9–August 13).
This an excellent opportunity for bright, high-achieving high school students, this program will give a rigorous college preparatory educational experience through exploratory coursework and community activities.
SUMMER IMMERSION HIGHLIGHTS
- Interact with Columbia scholars and experts in their fields.
- Engage with an international community of students.
- Prepare for college and the admissions process through specially designed programs.
- Participate in extracurricular activities led by current students.
- Earn a Columbia University Certification of Participation and evaluation letter.

OAK PARK SCHOOLS 2021 SUMMER ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS
We are thrilled to share that Oak Park Schools will be offering Summer Enrichment Programs to our students to provide opportunities for acceleration, enrichment, credit recovery, or original credit during the summer. We take pride in providing our students and their families with greater access to instruction, excellent teachers, and engaging learning experiences.

- Bridge programs prepare students with the academic skills to successfully transition from middle to high school.
- Enrichment programs provide students with an extended learning experience.

HENRY FORD HEALTH SYSTEM, OAK PARK SCHOOLS & CITY OF OAK PARK PARTNERING IN FIGHT AGAINST COVID-19
The City of Oak Park and Oak Park Schools are in partnership with Henry Ford Health System (HFHS) to provide Michigan residents with the COVID-19 vaccine. The City of Oak Park is providing the COVID-19 vaccine to anyone age 16 or older every Wednesday by appointment at the Oak Park Community Center. To make an appointment, visit www.oakparkmi.gov
People under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. No insurance is needed, but bring your insurance card if you have insurance. Vaccinations are free.
Henry Ford Health System is also continuing to provide free COVID-19 testing for the community at Oak Park High School every Wednesday 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.

OPS & GLEANERS COMMUNITY FOOD BANK - JUNE 4, 2PM-4PM
Oak Park Schools & Gleaners Community Food Bank are continuing to serve our community this spring. We want to ensure all families wishing to receive meals can do so. Families and individuals in need of food are encouraged to attend an upcoming drive-up distribution provided by Gleaners Community Food Bank
The distribution will take place on Friday, June 4 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Oak Park High School (13701 Oak Park Blvd, Oak Park 48237). PLEASE ENTER OFF OF COOLIDGE HWY.

SUPERINTENDENT'S STUDENT ADVISORY COUNCIL (SSAC)
About the Superintendent's Student Advisory Council (SSAC)
The Superintendent's Student Advisory Council is comprised of students at the elementary, middle school and high school levels. Students will be selected based on the merit of your application, including a recommendation from your school principal. The students should also serve as members of their school's leadership and are expected to share relevant information between the school and the district. The students who participate on the SSAC will play a critical role in district-wide decisions.
SSAC Member's Role
- Maintain and share a district-wide perspective on issues relevant to Oak Park Schools.
- Communicate directly with the Superintendent and other building and district administrators openly and honestly.
- Encourage the engagement of students, families, and community members within the broader district community.
- Work collaboratively to increase student achievement, attendance and reduce disciplinary issues through honest two-way communication, creating a culture of mutual respect and sharing of ideas for school district improvement and innovative programming.
- Commit to attend quarterly meetings, approximately 2-3 hours in length with opportunities for volunteer hours.
- Serve as an ambassador of Oak Park Schools through your "way of being" (communication with others, responsibility, cooperation, language, willingness to collaborate and follow proper communication protocols, etc.).

Why should I apply?
SSAC participation will provide students with opportunities to further develop leadership, verbal & written communication and social skills. SSAC leadership roles may include, but are not limited to:
- attending SSAC meetings,
- attending leadership development workshops,
- presenting to various audiences, including a quarterly presentation to the OPS Board of Education, and
- mentoring new SSAC members and other OPS students.

Summer School!
Oak Park Schools is proud to offer Summer Enrichment Learning for our K-12 students. Our summer program will run Monday - Thursday from June 28th - August 5, 9:00am - 4:00pm. Oakland Youth Innovation Lab will build on these strengths to ignite a joy of learning for all. This unique learning experience will be grounded in a strong sense of community and will engage students in deep learning that is meaningful and authentic. Additional Summer Learning Opportunities
The Michigan Learning Channel launched in January 2021 with the goal of making high-quality educational programming accessible at home to every student and family in Michigan—with or without home internet access. The channel is available statewide on broadcast television through a partnership between Michigan’s six PBS stations as well as on-demand and streaming to any device at www.michiganlearning.org. In Summer 2021, the Michigan Learning Channel is offering an 8-week program for grades Pre-K-6. The program includes standards-aligned ELA and Math lessons for each grade, plus physical fitness activities, hands-on STEM programs, and fun enrichment activities that bring in partners from across the state around a weekly theme.

MIDNIGHT GOLF PROGRAM CLASS OF 2022 APPLICATION IS LIVE!
The Midnight Golf Program (MGP) is a 30-week empowerment and mentoring experience that teaches life skills including college preparation, community activism, financial literacy, as well as, learning to play golf.
