Computers in education have become an absolute necessity today and are so ingrained in the daily lives of our students in the classroom that not knowing computers can become a significant liability. Here at OLM, we believe in making our students future-ready. Victoria Conlu was born in 1989 in Daly City, a predominantly Filipino suburb in the San Francisco Bay Area. The oldest of four children, Conlu grew up in a household very aware of her Filipino heritage and comfortable with her roots. She published her first novel, Sampaguita Roots while still a nursing student in 2012. Conlu graduated from University of California, Davis in March of 2017 with a Masters of Science in Nursing and Health-Care Leadership. She is now a nurse informaticist living with her family in the area of San Antonio, Texas as of fall 2017.

CAMELLIA, ENGKANTADA is a murder mystery and the first in what I hope to make a series of stories that bring elements of Filipino folklore into the context of modern-age Filpino American experiences. The importance of the stories we tell and pass onto to future generations often is that they are mirrors into what matters to us most, so I hope that connecting the stories of our present - murder mysteries, political thrillers, and the like - back their deepest roots in history and folklore, I can share with all of you the immense importance I see in remaining connected to where we come from, wherever that may be.

Strawberry Clouds was created by Phillino Barrett with no intention on being on a clothing line business. Inspired by a song he had made called Strawberry Clouds in 2021, he had decided that it would be a good idea to start a clothing line in 2022. The logo represents a person that's "Once in a Million", and in fact is a symbol of perserverance.

OLM dedicates preschool in honor of Sister Claire Maher, OP

Sister Claire's Preschool at Our Lady of Mercy School was blessed and named in honor of the founding principal of Our Lady of Mercy School: Dominican Sister Claire Maher.

We just installed a water filling station on-campus and are in the process of installing another one in the main building. Students may now refill their water bottles easily during the day.

We bid three of our colleagues farewell as they take new challenges in the next chapter of their life/careers.

The Day of the Dead or Dia De Los Muertos was originated in Mexico and traditionally celebrated on November 1st and 2nd. Día de los Muertos is a time to celebrate our deceased loved ones and keep their memories alive. Families create ofrendas (Offerings) to honor their departed family members that have passed. It is a rare holiday where mourning is exchanged for celebration.

All Saints' Day is celebrated on November 1st to remember all saints and martyrs during Christian history. It is followed by All Souls' Day on November 2nd to commemorate those who have passed within the faith. They are observed by Catholics and other Christians.

Let us offer a prayer in memory of the deceased.

Sister Claire was born Mary Catherine Maher in Iowa on November 15, 1907. Mary Catherine was received into the Dominican Sisters of San Rafael on March 7, 1929 and professed as Sister Mary Claire on March 8, 1930. Over the years, she became renowned as teacher, principal and/or superior in elementary schools and convents in San Leandro, San Francisco, Reno, San Rafael, Daly City, Monterey and San Anselmo.

In September 1955, Sister Claire became the founding Principal of Our Lady of Mercy School in the Westlake District of Daly City. Sister Claire, who had a way of speaking her mind, was asked by Henry Doelger, the builder of the Westlake homes, if she could use some books for the library, she said "No, but you could build me a Convent" and he did. Years later when Monsignor Richard Power, Pastor of Our Lady of Mercy Parish, asked what little thing her sisters might want at the convent, Sister Claire asked for a new wing and a chapel. She got her wish.

Sister Claire established long standing Dominican traditions at the new school. She remained the principal until 1963. Sister Claire returned to OLM on November 4, 2012 to help with the ribbon cutting for the new OLM preschool named in her honor - Sister Claire's Preschool.
