Behind the Stripes
October 2, 2023

It is that time of year again, where your Ozark Tigers take on the Nixa Eagles in the Backyard Brawl on October 20 at Nixa's Eagle Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
The annual contest is more than a game; it is an opportunity to support Ozark in our "Can the Eagles" competition. The district with the most contributions to Ozark's Least of These will earn bragging rights and the "Can Trophy" award.
Help your Tigers by giving today!

Program Highlight: Pride of the Ozarks Marching Band
One of Ozark High School's most decorated and successful programs is its marching band, the Pride of the Ozarks Marching Band. They have kicked off their 2023-2024 competitive marching season, this year with a show entitled "Weather the Storm". Take a look inside what it takes to put one of these shows together and what sets Ozark apart.

This week, OHS Senior Kelsey Cordell has been selected as an Athlete of the Week! Kelsey, although new to Ozark this year has already made herself invaluable to the Ozark Poms Dance team, according to Head Coach Shawnna Wilson.
"Kelsey is a great asset to our team. Even though she just joined us this summer, she has already demonstrated strong leadership traits and continually works to be a role model for our team," Wilson said. "She works hard to be the best she can be in all areas. She regularly attends weights, dedicates full energy and effort in all practices, and is a positive voice for the rest of the team. I love her positive attitude and the dedication she has to be a great dancer, teammate, and student. Even though I only get to have her this year, I am so glad I have the opportunity to work with her and know she will continue to be great in all things she pursues after graduation.
Congrats Kelsey!
This week, OHS Senior Caleb Lepant has been selected as an Athlete of the Week! Caleb is a part of the varsity boys soccer team and is having a stellar season, according to Head Coach Zack Owens
"Caleb is one of our captains, and is leading the team in goals this season with 17," Owens said. "He has also made his way onto the all-time leader board for goals and is currently sitting in 13th place, but will continue climbing that as the season goes on."
Congrats Caleb!
This week, OHS Senior Paige Adams has been selected as Artist of the Week! Paige is a key member of the behind the scenes for Ozark theatre productions, according to Theatre Director Caraline Dawson.
"Paige is going to be missed by the theatre department so much when she graduates this year, as she has been the lead stage manager for all our main stage shows for the past two years," Dawson said. "She just knows what is needed at rehearsal, and is able to keep rehearsals on track and the cast organized like no one else."
Congrats Paige!
This week OHS Senior Brinkley Sonntag is our Tiger of the Week! Brinkley is one of OHS's talented fashion designers, but it wasn't always that way according to Fashion Design teacher Lexy McNew.
"Brinkley actually started in the Introduction to Design Fundamentals class saying that she 'hated sewing,'" McNew said. "I asked her to give it a chance and see if she might be able to have a different experience than she did in junior high. Since then, Brinkley has taken every single fashion class that we offer. She is always willing to learn new skills, ask for help when she doesn't understand something and redo if she doesn't get it right the first time."
McNew continued adding that, "while Brinkley is not planning to major in fashion in college, she is very equipped for a lifetime of 'recreational' garment construction and quilting. She is now the example I use for my reluctant sewing students — explaining how far practice and a positive attitude can go."
Brinkley is pictured in her 1/2-Zip Pullover that she constructed last year in Fashion Design and Construction, along with her is the fashion sketch she created prior to making the design to illustrate what she wanted the finished product to look like.
Congrats Brinkley!
Meet Caraline Dawson!
Caraline Dawson is currently the director of Ozark's theater department and is the sponsor of the Thespian Club, which she has been doing since 2019. She has been a director for ten years. Dawson selects and directs all of Ozark's theater productions and currently is working with students to put on the winter musical, "Grease"!
"My students at Ozark are the best in the building," she said. "It's all for them."
