Bronson Community Schools District Update
January 5, 2024
Welcome, Mrs. Bucklin!
In Early December, Ryan Elementary welcomed their new Principal, Mrs. Jessica Bucklin.
Mrs. Bucklin is a Bronson native who most recently held the position of Director 9-12 Curriculum at Portage Public Schools. She began her career as a teacher in Bellevue Public Schools. She subsequently transitioned to Sturgis Public Schools, where she served as a School Counselor and then as Assistant Principal, before assuming the role of Continuous Improvement MTSS and Curriculum Consultant at the Jackson Intermediate School District. Mrs. Bucklin resides in Bronson with her husband, Steve and they have 3 sons.
Mrs. Bucklin is settling right in and has been very intentional with establishing relationships with students, families, and staff. She and the Ryan team are working together to create and implement effective systems for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) to support and celebrate Ryan students!
Welcome to BCS, Mrs. Bucklin!
Visitor Management
Each building will be implementing a new visitor check-in system (Navigate Visitor Management) very soon.
Upon entry in the buildings, visitors will be required to scan their Government Issued ID at a kiosk. If you do not have an ID with you, the administrative assistant in the office will manually check you in using your legal name and birthdate. The system will check various databases to ensure that the visitor is safe to be on school property. After the clearance check, a badge (including a picture) will be printed in the office. PLEASE BE SURE TO GET YOUR BADGE FROM OFFICE STAFF after finishing at the kiosk. It's important that you check out with the office staff, as well.
Eventually, students will also be checked in and out with this system and a pass will be printed for them to take to class.
With any new system, we anticipate that we might need to work through some barriers, but we know that this system will enhance safety throughout the district. Thank you, in advance, for your patience and understanding as we work through implementation.
Navigate Visitor Management was purchased with School Safety Grant (Section 97) funds.
THANK YOU, SMITTY'S PIZZA!
A HUGE "thank you" goes out to everyone who ordered a "Bronson Community Schools Pizza" during Smitty's fundraisers last fall. Bronson Community Schools received a $68 donation from the fundraisers.
We are so grateful for our community partnerships and their support of our district!
Delayed Start Survey
Thank you to those who provided input on the Delayed Start survey in December. We appreciate your willingness to provide insights on how this time impacts your student and family. Our next steps are to review the data and use it to make informed decisions as we work to provide time for teachers to collaborate and take part in sustained, job-embedded professional development opportunities in future school years.
Information will be shared as it is finalized, so be sure to keep an eye out in future District Updates!

School Board Recognition Month
January is School Board Recognition Month in Michigan.
The Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB) shares that "school board members connect essential pieces of the puzzle, bringing together the vision, expertise and passion needed to support public education. Their leadership, guidance and decision making are crucial in shaping the future of our students and providing them with the best opportunities to learn and grow. We appreciate the countless hours members devote to understanding complex educational issues, collaborating with stakeholders and making tough decisions. Thank you for being the driving force behind our educational system and for connecting the essential pieces that shape the future of our students and our community!"
Please join me in celebrating our Board Members this month for all they do for Bronson Community Schools: Jose Albarran, Jan Byler, Bob Cary, Tyson Franks, Jordon Houtz, Brenda Kelley, and Dennis Sikorski
