Best of Luck to Our BPA Students competing in Nationals in Anaheim, CA next week! Make us proud!
Congratulations to our National Cyber Scholarship Semifinalists.
These students represent a select group who have advanced in this year’s CyberStart America competition. With over 42,000 students competing nationwide, only 100 advanced from the state of Michigan. Westwood High School is proud to have seven of them!
On May 10, we will find out if any of these semifinalists have made it to the top level in the nation. The highest-scoring CyberStart players will be awarded a scholarship to cover the SANS Foundations course and one attempt at the GIAC Foundational Cybersecurity Technologies (GFACT) certification, worth over $3000. In addition, they can use that certification for 3 credit hours in many undergraduate college programs.
Our Westwood High School Cybersecurity program is led by Sabina Villar and Rachel Perala.

Westwood High School Parking Lot
The Westwood High School parking lot has become a place where students gather after hours to socialize and hang out with their peers. It has recently come to my attention that students are racing motorcycles and vehicles around the parking lot and around the ACES loop. This is an enormous safety concern for those who are participating in these activities as well as for those who travel along that road during the evening. In addition, there is often trash left lying around when staff arrives in the morning.
Monitoring the parking lot after hours is a challenge, so I ask that you use our parking lot respectfully and responsibly. I have spoken with local law enforcement and they will be patrolling the area more frequently to keep an eye on what is happening at WHS.
We have a beautiful campus that we take great pride in. We also encourage our students to use the space, as long as they take care of it when they are here. I hope we can work together to keep our parking lots safe for our entire school community.
Please reach out if you have any questions!

Distance Learning Update
As you know, we have exhausted all of our inclement weather days for the year. In the event we should have to close school for weather-related reasons prior to the end of the year, I have created a distance learning plan for Westwood High School.
In summary, students are required to meet via Zoom for their regularly scheduled class times, checking in for assignments and updates. Teachers will be available for the remainder of the class period should students have questions or need help.
I understand circumstances may occur that make it very difficult for some students to attend virtually. We ask that you do the best you can to attend your classes.
Below. you will find a link to the plan. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that we do not have to put this plan into action!
