Hey Vikes- GET CONNECTED!
Viking Family,
As we embark on this exciting journey of learning and growth, I want to encourage students to get involved in the community that is our school. Whether through clubs, sports, or volunteering, there are many opportunities to explore passions, make new friends, and contribute to something greater than self.
Participation in school activities is more than just filling up schedules —it’s about becoming a part of a community that supports and uplifts each other. One of my favorite authors, Brene’ Brown states, “We don’t have to do all of it alone. We were never meant to.”
Getting involved allows our students to connect with others, share talents, and learn from one another. These experiences will not only enrich time at school but will also help develop skills and relationships that will last a lifetime.
Remember, our school is more than just a place of learning—it’s a family. Our unique contributions make our community stronger and more dynamic. So encourage your students to take that step, join in, and make the most of what Lago Vista High School has to offer. See our list of awesome clubs and contact the club sponsor for more information! Let's get plugged in, Vikings!

💡 Reminders
1. LVHS is No Place for Vaping!
Vaping of any kind is against the law for anyone under the age of 21. In 2023, the Texas House passed Bill 114 which requires schools to place students in DAEP (Disciplinary Alternative Education Programs) if they are caught vaping on school grounds or at school-related events. The law applies to all e-cigarettes, regardless of whether they contain THC.
Please help us keep the school safe and the students in classrooms by educating your students about the dangers of e-cigarettes. Here is a great resource to talk to your teen about vaping and how bad it is for their physical, emotional and social health.
2. DRESS FOR SUCCESS
Remember:
- NO HATS IN THE BUILDING
- NO PAJAMA PANTS
- NO SHORT SHIRTS THAT REVEAL MIDRIFFS
- NO SPAGHETTI STRAPS
Students who are out of code will be asked to fix the issue themselves and/or provided proper attire to remedy the violation. Let's dress for success, Vikings!
3. IMPORTANT DATES 📆
- 9/2 Monday - No School Labor Day
- 9/3 Tuesday - No School- Professional Learning Day
- 9/13 Friday- Homecoming Night
- 9/19- School Picture Day
- 10/31-11/1- Senior Yearbook Pictures
4. GIFTED AND TALENTED REFERRAL
The G/T referral window fill begin as soon as the referral window closes.
SPANISH LVISD G/T Referral Form
Please contact Tricia Vasquez, LVISD K-12 GT Specialist, with any questions.
5. MUST BE PRESENT TO WIN!
There is so much great teaching and learning going on at LVHS, but your student has to be present in order to get the best education possible. We want our Vikings here as much as possible, and, Parents, YOU CAN HELP!
Encourage your student to get their clothes, backpacks, and lunches ready to go the night before school.
Help them get to bed at a decent hour and encourage decreased screen time close to lights out.
Remind them of our Exemption Policy which could mean they can opt out of up to 3 Final Exams in the Spring.
Plan appointments before or after school trying hard to be present during the crucial 2nd/6th period window that begins at 9:35am.
If your kid is sick, please keep them home. We don't want to pass any germs around!
Per Texas State Law, in order to receive credit for a course or grade level, a student must be in attendance 90% of the time. Absences whether excused or unexcused count towards the total. Many parents don't realize that the vast majority of our funding from the state is directly tied to our daily attendance. Each student that is present each day equates to about $37 in funding. If a student is absent, that amount is lost. $37 may not seem like much, but it adds up quickly! This year we are encouraging all students to "Strive for 5!" Strive for 5 or less missed days for your child this school year.
Attendance Reminders
The tardy bell rings at 8:45. Instruction begins immediately at this time.
Official attendance is taken each day around 9:35am. If your child is not physically present at that time, they are counted absent.
All attendance notes should be emailed to Cynthia England at cengland@lagovistaisd.net. Notes should be returned within 3 school days of the absence or appointment.
6. OPPORTUNITY TO TRAVEL ABROAD 🛫
Kim Bentley, Middle School Assistant Principal, is leading a group of students to The Galápagos Islands in Summer 2026, and you’re invited!
Learn more about the trip they're planning with EF Tours, our educational travel partner. Please be sure to register for this info session to be considered for this opportunity: https://rsvp.eftours.com/vggrbnn
When students travel, they expand their knowledge of the world around them, discover more about themselves, and grow more confident. These skills are critical for creating the global citizens of tomorrow, and we would love to have your student join us on this adventure.
In this info session, we’ll talk about:
- How this opportunity will benefit your student
- What we’ll see and do on our trip
- Everything that’s included in this experience
- How your child can earn academic credit
- How we’re keeping this safe and affordable
- How to enroll on this trip (before it fills up!) during EF’s risk-free enrollment period
There are limited spots on this trip, so we would love to have you attend this meeting to learn more about this exciting opportunity!
Thanks,
Kimberly Bentley- kbentley@lagovistaisd.net
**Please note, this is a non-school sponsored trip.**
7. PARKING PERMITS $40
If your student drives a car to LVHS campus, they must purchase a parking permit. Scan the QR code below to purchase one online and have your student stop by the front office to pick up their tag.
