Friendship!
We have been really focusing on how to make friends, how to take turns and share, to care about one another, and what it means to be a good friend.
It is crazy to think about something as simple a saying hello to a new friend on the playground can land you a new best friend- but this is something we have been talking to the kids about all over school, In the classrooms, in library, on the morning announcements- we are always reminding them that they never know when they are going to meet their new best friend, so make sure to say hi to everyone and include everyone. They have been practicing with people in their classroom just saying "Hi. My name is_______. Would you like to play?" or "Hi! What's your name? Want to swing/slide/play a game?" They were really very apprehensive of doing this at first... even when practicing with their classmates. Some of our most outgoing classes of kiddos hesitated to reach out to someone new! This gave Mrs. Fraze, our librarian, an idea- and she challenged every single class the last 2 weeks to say hello to someone new in their bus line, out at recess, at breakfast or lunch, and even in their classroom- and they have been running to report to her the new friendships made and even walk into school with their new friends hand in hand down the hall on their way to their classrooms. Making friends is so important and being a good friend is even more important- so don't forget to be discussing this at home too.
SO EXCITING! The Scholastic Book Fair elf came to deliver our Winter Book Fair!! We are so excited to have our book fair here at school next week! This week, our Pre-schoolers and all Kindergarteners got a chance to preview the fair and all students will be able to shop next week! Students will be able to shop independently on their library days next week and can pay via cash, check (with a budget of course!!!!!), or card via the scholastic e-wallet (https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/.../parent-how-it-works...) We will have book options in every budget- so whether they have a large budget, or all you can afford is some change in a zippy bag, we promise we will get them a book they LOVE! The Fair will also be open for shopping during their Cookies With Santa performances, so they can shop with their special guests as well! More information will be coming home with them today!
Nothing says BEST DAY EVER more than putting a pie in your teacher's face!!!!!
The kiddos that sold pies for their college fund fundraiser got to put pies in their teacher's faces last week, and they thought it was simply AMAZING!!
Our VIRTUAL lost and found!!!
This is a great link to keep handy as it is our virtual lost and found. Every couple of weeks, SRO Joe will update the photos of things we have found around the school. As a rule of thumb, remember that whatever you send your child to school with- LABEL IT!!! That makes it super easy to return to them when it pops up. We will post this link on facebook when it is updated too. Always send an email to SRO Joe when you see something in our lost and found that belongs to your child though- he is the one in charge =)
