A Message from Our Principal
November is here, and it is hard to believe we are almost at the halfway point of the school year. If you take time to read this, you know that I often talk about improving our test scores and ultimately improving our school’s score on the state report card. Last week, many of you parents took time out of your day or night to help us accomplish our goals. I would like to thank everyone who was able to attend. I witnessed many great conversations between students and their parents regarding their scores and grades. In order for us to expect our students to improve, we must make sure they understand what their scores mean. The same is true for parents. I hope that the meetings last week were beneficial to you and your student as you both have a better understanding of your child’s scores now.
This week we will begin our second IXL diagnostic test. As was stated last week, this is important for us to not only see where your student has gaps individually, but also where we have gaps as a school. The only way we can get a true picture of where each student is and where we are as a school is for every student to put forth his/her best effort. The goal of any school and any parent should be to teach and raise our kids in a way that they are successful in life. Success or failure on one test is no indicator that a kid will be a successful student or adult. Effort, however, is an indicator of how successful a person will be. All we want is every student's best effort this week on the IXL so we can get a true picture of each student and our school. Please encourage your child to always put forth their best effort.
This Thursday, we will honor our veterans with our annual Veterans Day Luncheon. Forms were sent home last week, and any student is allowed to have a veteran come eat with them between 11-12 Thursday. The PVO will cater a soup bar for our veterans. This is always a special event and very beneficial for our students to be around some of the toughest, most selfless people on earth. It is an honor to have these men and women on campus each year, and it is something the faculty and staff truly look forward to.
I’ll finish with one final reminder. The middle of the nine weeks is here, and Progress Reports will be available in PowerSchool on Thursday. Extracurricular events are in full swing, as well as various sicknesses. If your child is out for any reason, please remember to send an excuse for the absence as well as encourage them to make up any assignments missed while out. Missed assignments greatly impact their learning and their average in the gradebook.
