Thank you to those who signed up for and were able to attend the Radical Self-Care 101 Workshop that was led by Dr. SooJin Pate. The materials and activities presented during the workshop created excellent opportunities for self-exploration and introspection. We learned about how creating safe spaces and healthy boundaries can be essential to our health. The slides from her presentation are linked here.
February 1, 2023 Workshop
Self-Awareness for Intentional Interactions Workshop
Duration: 90 minutes; last extra 30 minutes will be for affinity group breakout sessions
(This will be the fourth whole group required meeting for the Teachers of Color Mentorship Program Participants.)
Session description: Self-Awareness for Intentional Interactions will introduce participants to framework and language that aims to contextualize our experiences within conflict. This will aid with the identification of personal and communal strengths, support needs, and potential responses. The format of the workshop will center experiential learning, including small group and plenary discussion, seated and moving activities, and guided reflection. A digital workbook will be shared post session.
This is an introduction on responsive skill building. The tools offered, the Window of Tolerance, the OODA Loop, the Holistic Check-in, and CLARA, help cultivate our experiential awareness in pursuit of safety. By the end of this session, participants will have a deeper understanding of how the world affects them, their instinctual responses to their surroundings, and ways in which to move.
We will cover:
- Identifying your personal responses to escalated situations.
- Learning about your Activation Points and Anchor Points which may inform how you respond to perceived threat.
- Learning about the Holistic Check-in which may aid in identifying needs in yourself and others.
- Introducing the OODA Loop; a decision-making tool and cognitive short cut you can use in a potentially threatening situation.
- Verbal De-escalation good practices and tactics to support yourself and others.
