Native American Heritage Month
November is Native American Heritage Month, a time to celebrate the rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories and to acknowledge the important contributions of Native people.
It is also a great time to raise awareness about the unique challenges Native people have faced – both historically and in the present. Indigenous people and their cultures are not relics of the past. They are alive, breathing, and amazingly resilient.
View the Indigenous art, history, and culture as told through the historians, artists, students, and scientists in this featured resource collection on the WHYY/PBS Learning website.
To learn more about the heritage of American Indians and Alaska Natives, please visit the National Native American Heritage website.
November is Epilepsy Awareness Month
*On Thursday, November 16th please join the Cinnaminson School Community by wearing Purple/Lavender. *
Lavender is the international color for epilepsy and is also a color that symbolizes solitude. The goal of Purple Day is to increase general public awareness, to reduce the social stigma endured by many individuals with the condition, and to empower individuals living with epilepsy to take action in their communities.
Fall Break = No School for Students
There will be NO SCHOOL for students from November 6 - 10, 2023. During this week, staff will attend various district Professional Development sessions, as well as the NJEA Convention.
We wish our families a restful fall break!

Counselors' Corner
November 13th is World Kindness Day!
World Kindness Day promotes the importance of being kind to each other, to yourself, and to the world. The purpose of this day, celebrated on November 13 of each year, is to help everyone understand that compassion for others is what binds us all together. It is observed in many countries including the United States, Canada, Japan, Australia and the U.A.E. World Kindness Day presents us with the opportunity to reflect upon one of the most important and unifying human principles. On this day devoted to the positive potential of both large and small acts of kindness, try to promote and diffuse this crucial quality that brings people of every kind together. By doing so, we attempt to make the world a better place by celebrating good deeds and pledging acts of kindness.
Together, New Albany staff and students will participate in discussions and activities about how kindness starts with us and the ripple effect it has on others in our lives.
SOCKTOBER results!
During the month of October, staff, students, and families participated in our Socktober donation drive. We are excited to report that we collected over 1,900 socks to be donated to a local shelter for those in need. This is the most that we’ve ever collected! Whoo Hoo!!
Way to show your support, NAS families! These donations will help so many who are in need.
We are so proud of this service project!
Library Corner
Dear Parents and Families,
I would like to share my sincere gratitude for making our "Get Your Paws on a Good Book" Book Fair an outstanding success! The week was filled with excitement!
My reward for hosting a Book Fair is watching your kids discover new books. All that joy wouldn’t be possible without volunteers from our school community – you deserve my special thanks.
Love, Mrs. Conn
Nurse's Corner
A MESSAGE FROM NURSE SOCHA (NAS) & NURSE EVANS (MEMORIAL)
Health Guidance
It's the season of colds and flu, and germs can spread quickly. We ask parents to keep their children home if they are sick to reduce the spread of germs. For detailed information, please refer to the nurse's letter: Guidelines for Illness.
Medication Paperwork
It is a board policy that a written request by parent and physician be provided to the school nurse to administer medication in school. For the safety of our students with medical needs and life threatening conditions, please ensure proper paperwork is submitted to the school nurses. If your child no longer has this condition or does not require emergency medication, please have the physician write a note stating this so your child’s health record can be updated.

Pre-K Mandatory Seasonal Flu Vaccine
Seasonal Flu: The current seasonal influenza vaccine is required every year for those children 6 months through 59 months of age. Children who have not received the flu vaccine by December 31 must be excluded (not allowed to attend child care/preschool) for the duration of influenza season (through March 31), until they receive at least one dose of the influenza vaccine or until they turn 60 months of age. *Please send a record of flu vaccination or proper exemption letter (to Nurse Evans at Memorial) by December 22nd, 2023 to prevent exclusion upon return to school from Winter Break on January 2nd, 2024.*
Health Screenings
Preventive Health Screenings in HS - New Jersey | State Policy Database
Screenings will be started and prioritized as a referral basis either by parent/guardian, teacher, or child study team for students with permission noted on the Annual Health Services Survey. If your child does not have permission to be screened and is referred for either difficulty seeing or hearing or another concern, it will be recommended by the nurse to follow up with your child’s medical provider. Please contact your building nurse with any questions, concerns, or referral needs.
Change of Clothing
Sometimes accidents occur and a change of clothing is needed for our kindergarten students. Please provide a change of clothes, including underwear, in a ziploc bag labeled with your child's name to be kept in their backpack or storage in the classroom. It is common for elementary age students to have bathroom accidents and to ensure proper fit and limited disruption to the day, it is best to have their own change of clothes. It is also helpful to have in the event a child gets soiled during outside play (PE, recess). The nurse's office will also accept donations of new underwear and gently used clothing.
We look forward to continuing to partner with you to ensure a healthy, happy school year! Feel free to contact us with any questions. You can reach Nurse Socha at sochac@cinnaminson.com or
Nurse Evans at evanse@cinnaminson.com.
Thank you,
Nurse Socha & Nurse Evans
