A Message from the Superintendent....
I always look forward to our senior speeches. This year I am more excited than usual to learn what enduring memories our students will be left with as they reflect on their senior experience amidst the backdrop of a once-in-a-century pandemic to reach the high school graduation milestone. When they walk across the stage this coming week with their diploma in hand, it will be the end of a journey unimaginable before the pandemic struck.
Living through a global pandemic has changed the lives of everyone. But for seniors, already reflective and introspective on the cusp of a major life transition, the disruption to a senior year they looked so forward to was even more eventful. This coming week our seniors will share their experiences as we send them off with all of the pomp and circumstance befitting a proper and traditional in-person graduation ceremony. We will also livestream the ceremonies on our YouTube channel here for family and friends who are out of the area or unable to attend.
Riverside County remains in the COVID-19 Orange Tier (Moderate). As I reported in my recent messages, if we move to the Yellow Tier (Minimal) this coming week, high schools will communicate exactly how they will get additional tickets to families. But as of today, we remain restricted by the 33% capacity requirement as defined in the chart below:
Graduation Dates and Times...
The ceremonies will all be held at 6 pm in Zack Earp Stadium on the campus of Norte Vista High School. Dates are as follows:
- Alvord High School graduates on Monday, May 24
- Alvord Alternative School graduates on Monday, May 24
- Alvord Community Adult School graduates on Monday, May 24
- La Sierra graduates on Tuesday, May 25

- Norte Vista graduates on Thursday, May 27

Looking Ahead to 2021-22...
Q: When does the 2021-22 school year start?
A: August 6, 2021. See the entire school year calendar below.
Q: Will school be traditional in 2021-22?
A: Yes. We are planning for a full return to in-person instruction five days a week. Safety measures will be communicated to families as we approach the start of school since it's impossible to predict the conditions at that point in time.
Q: Will there be distance learning options?
A: Yes. Principals and counselors will work with families that prefer to remain in a distance learning program to discuss the options available.
Q: Will a COVID-19 vaccine be required for school entry?
A: No. State governments decide which vaccines are required for school entry. At this point in time there is no COVID-19 vaccine requirement for this coming school year.

California Baptist University 6-12 Summer Music Camps....
California Baptist University play a large role supporting our Elementary Music Program, providing a variety of resources. Their junior high and high school summer music camps provide high-level musical training for young musicians through intensive, week-long camps. These camps focus on musicianship, pedagogy, theory and performance through daily rehearsals and classes. The CBU camps foster growth and character in each musician while building the great tradition of music appreciation. Learn more about the programs and how to register here. While there is a minimal cost, financial assistance is available. Email Dr. Moon, the CBU Summer Music Camp Director, at gmoon@calbaptist.edu, to learn more about the financial assistance program.
In Closing....
On behalf of the Board of Education, thank you for working closely with us to make the best of a challenging year. We greatly value your partnership and look forward to brighter days ahead.
Stay positive. Stay safe. Be well.
Sincerely,
Allan Mucerino
