Hazelwood Families,
June is here and it is hard to believe the school year is coming to an end soon. We have made it through a historic school year, with all of the challenges of a global pandemic...and we couldn’t be prouder of our students’ resiliency. Thank you, families, for your support and perseverance as we moved from total online learning to a phased in hybrid option. We are a learning community that values the diversity of our students and are proud to offer learning opportunities that meet each student’s needs. Summer now provides a much needed time to reconnect with our families, recharge, and find some rest from the busy school year. That being said, we still have just over 3 weeks left and learning is still happening. Let’s all work together to end the year strong. Here are some important things that you need to know.
Library Books: All library books for all Hazelwood students should be returned to the school by June 9th. Please email Ms. Whicker (whickert@edmonds.wednet.edu) if books have been lost.
Stay focused on learning: We still have important learning left in the school year and we want all students present in person or on Zoom. Please be checking in with your child to make sure they are attending, participating, and completing their assignments.
Sixth Grade Graduation: We will be honoring our sixth grade class with a drive-through event on Tuesday, June 22nd from 2:00-3:00. We are so proud of this amazing 6th grade class and their flexibility and resilience!
Last Day: The last day of school is Thursday, June 24th and that day will be early release. All students will be learning from 9:50-12:50 that day. Report cards will be available the following week in Skyward.
Thank you for all that you do to support your child’s learning this year. We appreciate you!
In partnership,
Mrs. Lee

Hazelwood Families,
Sra. Lee

Personal Safety Lessons
Over the course of the next few weeks, your child will be participating in a lesson about personal safety. These lessons are required by law to help educate students about how to keep themselves safe and prevent sexual abuse.
In these lessons, students will learn that they are in control of their own bodies, that they can rely on their families and community to protect them, and how to identify safe and unsafe touch. Please remember to talk with your children about safety rules at home and in the community. Here are some resources for parents to talk about sexual abuse prevention with kids.
If you have any questions regarding this lesson, please contact or office at 425-431-7884.

Looking Forward To Summer
Of particular concern in the mental health field right now is the issue screen time and its effect on mental health in kids. Hopefully, some of the resources included here might empower you to try to make this summer with your families "More Green and LESS Screen!" As we move out of pandemic online learning and into summer, this is a great opportunity to make some healthy changes that support the mental health of all children.
Big Emotions and Children
- Make sure to validate their feelings and comfort them.
- Discuss with your child or the teacher (if needed) to figure out what specific struggles they are having.
- Don't force them to participate in the extra, fun, end of year activities if it is causing stress.
- Give them plenty of time to recharge and take time away from screens.
