Middle School Message
October 7, 2022
Our mission: We are a community of learners inspiring each child to explore, grow, and achieve.
Message from the Principal
I am hoping you can take a moment to read this message today and to have a follow-up conversation with your child this weekend. Unfortunately, this week Mr. Boland and I have had to deal with numerous discipline incidents that involve the use of racial slurs. The staff at LMS are committed to making sure this is a safe and productive learning environment where all students feel valued and comfortable learning. We cannot and will not tolerate the use of slurs in our building.
I spoke with all of the students this morning and made it clear that slurs do not belong in our vocabulary, ever, and that consequences will always be issued for using slurs here. This of course, can be a difficult conversation to have without being too explicit--in other words I have no desire to inadvertently teach your children new words. I left the message fairly vague in terms of what slurs are--they are words meant to make someone feel bad. I am hoping you can fill in blanks at home if necessary and answer any questions your child may have, and reinforce these expectations and values of the middle school.
We are looking at ways we can better educate our students about being respectful of themselves and others with their words and the power of choosing these wrong words. If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to myself or Mr. Boland.
Thank you,
Mrs. Corum

Lakewood Local Schools Seeks to Pass Renewal Levy on November 8
On November 8, 2022, Lakewood Local Schools has a renewal levy on the ballot. This levy renews two existing levies into one ten-year emergency levy, and results in NO NEW TAXES for our taxpayers. The levies make up 24% of our annual budget and are crucial for the District to continue providing great educational and extra-curricular opportunities for our students, while also helping us maintain things like salaries, utilities and maintenance. The District works very hard to spend the money provided by our taxpayers responsibly, as evidenced by revenues exceeding our expenditures in the last fiscal year. To learn more about the upcoming Levy Renewal for Lakewood Local Schools, contact Superintendent Mark Gleichauf at mgleichauf@lakewoodlocal.k12.oh.us, or Treasurer Glenna Plaisted at gplaisted@lakewoodlocal.k12.oh.us. Both also can be reached at our District Offices at (740) 928-5878. If you are interested in supporting the Lancer Pride Levy Committee, please contact them at lancerprideteam@gmail.com.
Building Goal: 100% of students will complete 100% of their assignments
This coming Thursday, October 13th marks the end of the grading period. We are working diligently to get all missing work turned in before then.

Mrs. Laura Carpico
Her favorite thing about 6th graders is that there is never a dull moment.
She is currently reading We Carry Their Bones: The Search for Justice at the Dozier School for Boys and Aurora.
Mrs. Michelle Vayansky
1. I have worked at LMS for 12 years, and all in 6th grade.
2. My favorite thing about 6th grade is watching the students mature as the year goes on. Our kids enter LMS as elementary students and undergo a year of growth, physically, emotionally, organizationally, and academically. Sometimes the transformation leaves me in awe. To watch kids discover who they are as people is awesome!
3. I am currently in the midst of two very different books. The first is The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris and the other is Verity by Colleen Hoover. I totally jumped on the Colleen Hoover bandwagon this summer!
