Dear WHS Families,
Fall Curriculum Information: OPTIONAL Parent Night
By now you should have received some grade level content information in video format from your child(ren)'s teacher. Sending this information in video format was our attempt to provide everyone access to this important information without the burden of securing childcare.
Using this delivery model last year was met with positive feedback.
On Thursday, September 7th, from 6:30- 7:30 p.m. we will host an OPTIONAL “Open House” drop-in style visitation for parents only. The purpose of this session is to provide parents interested in getting in the building an opportunity to do so. Teachers will be in their classrooms for any individual questions you may have. There will be NO FORMAL PRESENTATION given during the session. All the grade level curriculum and classroom based information will be provided in the videos sent to you prior to this date.
Your attendance at the evening visitation is not expected and is entirely optional.
LIFETOUCH PICTURE DAY IS WEDNESDAY, 8/13/23:
Save the date: Wednesday, September 13th is fall picture day! Lifetouch envelopes will come home in the backpack today, but you can order pictures anytime by visiting mylifetouch.com.

2023/2024 WHS PTA COMMITTEE OPPORTUNITIES
The PTA is gearing up for the 2023/2024 school year and is starting to look for parents to help out with various committees! We are in need of new faces to out with many committees this year.

SEEKING STAR “BUCKS” DONATIONS:
Help WHS PTA fill the Star “Bucks” reward closet for the year! Students earn Star “Bucks” throughout the year and can buy a prize from the reward closet. We are seeking donations for new/unused toys, games, sports gear, electronics etc. The teachers have some small trinkets, toys, pencils but are looking for help with the big ticket items. If you would like to donate, please contact Mandi Jennings to arrange drop-off/pick-up.
WHS YEARBOOK PHOTOS:
We want your photos for the yearbook! The Yearbook Committee created a google photos drive this year to make it easier to get as many photos as we can this year.
Please add a description of the event, the grade and the teacher (if applicable) so it will help the committee figure out where to put the pictures in the yearbook. The committee will go through all the photos to select which ones will be included in the yearbook later this year!
If you have pictures from the end of last year (field day or class parties) feel free to include them! There will be reminders throughout the year to upload your photos.

SCHOOL PICTURE DAY: 9/13

INTERESTED IN CUB SCOUTS: 9/15 | 6:30 PM
Join us for our first Pack Meeting on Friday, September 15 at 6:30pm in the Hammerschmidt gym. Kids from all grades are welcome! Pack 42 is a wonderful way for your kids to learn about service & responsibility, the outdoors, hiking, camping, and so much more. We have Pack Meetings once a month, and each grade level (Den) has a Den Meeting once a month. Come check it out on September 15! Email pack42communications@gmail.com with any questions.
WHS TRACK-A-THON: 10/19
Let’s get ready for our first major fundraiser of the school year - WHS TRACK-A-THON on Thursday, October 19!! All proceeds go to WHS to help fund assemblies, field trips and more!
Track-a-thon is a great fundraiser for Hammerschmidt that occurs during your child(s) P.E. class. More detailed information is coming soon!
This year’s theme is LET’S GLOW CRAZY! The Track-a-thon committee is currently seeking BLACK LIGHTS to borrow. If you have any that you are willing to let WHS PTA borrow for the day, please contact Michelle Greco!
Got black lights to lend, glow sticks/necklaces/bracelets etc to donate or want to volunteer your time for that day? Please contact Michelle Greco or click here to volunteer for set up and day of help.

The WHS PTA is an annual membership and all parents, grandparents, teachers/faculty, relatives and friends of the family are ALL welcome to join!

We are planning fun and exciting things for this school year and we need your help! Choose to become a member of an organization that benefits your children. Dues are $15.00 per adult or $20 per family of which $9.50 goes to the Illinois/National PTA & the remaining portion helps fund our activities and programs at WHS.
We encourage at least one parent to join and/or you (or grandparents, family members etc.) can donate which 100% goes directly to WHS PTA to help support the many amazing programs and clubs, field trips and teacher/staff appreciation efforts that WHS PTA offers throughout the school year. You will receive a copy of the WHS school directory as a benefit of your WHS PTA membership. The school directory comes in handy for play dates, car pools, homework help, group projects and more!
