April 9, 2023
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Greetings Titans,
I hope you had a terrific break. Can you believe that there are only seven more weeks of school? Let us make each day count!
This week, Elkins Pointe is celebrating National Assistant Principals' Week to show appreciation to Ms. Ida Ward, Dr. Gladys Peoples, and Mr. James Tongue. We will treat our assistant principals to lunch and give them swag bags to show gratitude. If you want to drop off thank-you notes or a small token to include in the appreciation bags, please bring your cards and gift items to the front office.
The School Governance Council (SGC) voting window will open on April 12th and close on April 19th. The ballots will be sent directly to parent and teacher emails. Please be on the lookout for an email from School Governance. Thank you to our parent/guardian candidates, Mr. John Kouns and Mrs. Joanne Kuri, for running for office. Also, thank you to Ms. Monica Colquitt for declaring herself as a teacher candidate. The process is that parents will vote for their parent-elect, and the teachers will vote for the teacher-elect representative.
If you still need to complete the Input Survey, please use the link: https://bit.ly/Input-Survey_MS_HS_2023. This survey is essential to the Elkins Pointe Schoolwide Plan for 2023-2024. Please help us to meet the audit requirement and to make our family engagement goals.
Thanks for all you do!
Damian Bounds
Principal of Elkins Pointe Middle School

There are fun events throughout the evening and music that plays most of the night. It is a special night that combines having fun with celebrating loved ones who have beaten cancer and remembering those who passed on.
We hope you join us on May 5th. We will have a team canopy and encourage members to bring chairs, blankets, snacks, sodas, juices, and water. Many people create items and treats to sell at the event to fundraise. You can even create a personal page linked to our team to share your stories and fundraise through your social media outlets. Thank you in advance for your support.

STUDENT SUCCESS SKILLS STUDENT INVENTORY - 4/17 to 4/21
The Student Success Skills Inventory is used to measure student growth across Student Success Skill standards as a result of ReThink Ed lessons. Students complete the inventory by indicating if they almost always, always, sometimes, or never apply the skills being taught in the areas of Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Competence, Collaborative Problem Solving, Reflective Learning Strategies, and Sense of Belonging. The SSS Inventory is about 15-20 items and is administered to students in the Fall and Spring. It takes about 15 minutes to complete. Students complete the SSS Inventory using the Illuminate platform.
- Fall Inventory Administration: August 29, 2022 – September 2, 2022
- Spring Inventory Administration: April 17, 2023 – April 21, 2023
If you have any questions about the SSS Inventory, please get in touch with your school's Student Success Skills Champion, Mr. James Tongue. Parents can choose to opt out of their child from the Spring Inventory. To opt out, parents must submit a written request to the school principal, Mr. Damian Bounds, at boundsd@fultonschools.org.

TITAN CELEBRATIONS!!
"TABLE FOR TWO USA" EDAMAME CHAMPS
The 7th grade Japanese class participated in the “#EdamameChamp” Workshop sponsored by Table for Two USA. (It was a part of the reward for winning the “Team Award” last semester: https://onigiri-action.com/en/). During the workshop, students learned about “wa-shokuiku”: Japanese food education that promotes healthy eating (https://www.wa-shokuiku.org/). They also participated in the Edamame Chopsticks competition and learned how to make “inari-zushi,” a type of sushi with sweet fried tofu. Arigatoo, Table for Two, for providing all the materials and educating our students on appropriate food choices!
HIP, HIP, HOORAY FOR THE PTSA 6TH & 7TH GRADE CARNIVAL!
Thank you to the PTSA for creating a fun way for the 6th-grade and 7th-grade students to enjoy spending time together and enjoying a beautiful day! A "BIG TOP THANK YOU" to PTSA Carnival Chair & Ring Master, Mrs. Randi Tucker. Thank you to all the parent volunteers for the candy, chips, concessions, set-up, clean-up, and everything else that made this happen!
MRS. KATHA STUART PIZZA DELIVERY
For FCS Board Member Appreciation Week, Elkins Pointe brought a special delivery to District 1 Board Representative Mrs. Katha Stuart. The gift was inspired by the AVID T-shirt designed by 8th-grade AVID student Wyatt Bauch. Ms. Stuart received a pizza box with "pizza" thank you notes written by the AVID students, an AVID T-shirt, and a gift certificate from Elkins Pointe business partner Alessio's Pizza. Principal Bounds and SGC Parent-Elect Mrs. Julie Kruzic presented the gifts at the Katha Stuart Community Meeting.
TAKE A BITE OUT OF EXCELLENCE!
Elkins Pointe AVID students hold a design contest to select the design for their T-Shirts each year. Students submit a drawing or graphic, and then the classes vote for their favorite. This year's AVID t-shirt winner was Wyatt Bauch, an 8th-grade student. It features the AVID letters as pepperoni pizza, with the slogan "Take a bite out of excellence!"
"Why Pizza" by Wyatt Bauch?
When I made the AVID design for Elkins Pointe, I knew what AVID did. It helped me succeed. To succeed, you will have to have teamwork. So, to symbolize that I chose pizza for design, you might think that was a weird choice, but I do not think. Making the pizza is not just one person's hard work, and it takes the teamwork of many people of different skill sets to make the pizza. Then when you finish with that team building, the pizza is done, and you can "Take a Bite of Excellence!"
BUTTERFLY CAMO CHALLENGE
The 7th-grade Science classes engaged in a camouflage challenge to better understand Natural Selection and Adaptations. One example of an adaptation is camouflage, where organisms blend in with their surroundings using concealing or self-decoration techniques to escape predators and increase their chances of survival. Each student was provided a paper butterfly, markers, and tape. After camouflaging and hiding their butterfly, the 7th-grade Science Teachers went on the hunt.
BEAUTIFUL PLATE PRESENTATIONS
The FACS students from the 6th-grade engaged in a "Plating and Presentation Competition" by using a Hostess Twinkie, berries, chocolate/caramel/strawberry sauces, whipped cream, and cinnamon/cocoa powder. Parent and faculty guest judges came to rate the plates according to neatness, creativity, etc.
- FIRST PLACE 2nd period: Team SPLAT- Lexie Nance, Finn Kingry, Natalie Tudurean, and Camilla Tompkins
- FIRST PLACE 7th Period: Team Quad- Nathan Chow, Gavin Sattler, Everett Cary, and Carlos Ortiz-Diaz
