The Cardinal Way

I want my kids to be loved and cared for on a daily basis. If I subtract out the time my kids sleep at night, they spend a considerable amount more time at school during the week than at home. This means for them that school must be a home away from home. I trust that while my kids are at school they are in an environment that is safe and with people who care for them. I know my kids are not perfect, but their unique personalities are what make them special. I want to know that when they are at school there is someone there who loves them and cares for them. I want to know that people (teachers, administrators, etc.) care more about who they are, than what they do. We have an awesome responsibility as teachers - people trust us with their most precious things in the world. Just like my own children, no child is perfect. And every child can be a challenge in their own way, but we must love them anyway. Above anything else, I want my kids to be in an environment with someone who cares for them every day!

Week 30: Grateful Friday Challenge

Well hhhhheeeellllllllooooo Friday! How did you get here so fast? What’s that you say... something about being so busy that time is just flying by as our heads spin? Yep, it is getting to that time of year. Well, welcome anyway. Glad you are here!

Today let’s celebrate making it to Friday! We have had four great days so far this week as we have been getting back into the groove of the school week! To keep the fun rolling for one more day- your #SHSGFC is to write 5 positive post-its to 5 different people. Stick a note on a classroom door during passing period, place one on a student’s desk, or pat one onto your colleague's shoulder as they pass you in the hallway -- place these wherever you would like to spread a little positivity.

Mr. Rascoe and Mrs. Shimp met with senior 21st Century Scholars this week. These students had a final few tasks to complete the requirements for the program. Students met in the IMC and worked through these tasks. All these students have now completed their requirements and can qualify for free college tuition.

Our marketing students have been working on a Food Truck project. The students had to develop a concept for a food truck and then create promotional materials and a marketing plan for their truck. Students are creating logos, their truck design, and a website to promote their food truck. The students then visited 267 to present their projects to different groups. Students listening had money that they could invest in the trucks they felt had the best concept, design, and presentation.

The LAMP program connects high school Latino students with current SMS 8th graders to help them transition to high school. The 8th graders made their first visit to SHS this week. The students met with their high school mentors to learn more about SHS, take a tour, and get lunch from our cafeteria. These students will stay connected during iPass next school year.

Our amazing Alumni Association visited SHS to congratulate our student scholarship winners. Students came to the main office throughout the day to get information about the scholarship they are receiving. The Scholarship Banquet will be held on May 22 where the scholarship winners, their families, and donors will come together to celebrate their accomplishments.

Mrs. Tejchma's ICP students are learning about homogeneous and heterogeneous mixtures. Students spent time in class learning about the differences between these two mixtures and how they can distinguish between the two. The class then visited the lab to identify unknown mixtures as homogeneous or heterogeneous. The students then worked to come up with rules they could use to distinguish between the two mixtures.
