Fairview Falcon Family Newsletter

From the Principal
Dear families,
It's hard to believe that November is here! The weather is getting colder, the first trimester is over, and our school year continues to zip by.
Next week, all Fairview teachers have scheduled parent teacher conferences with families to share about how your children are learning and growing so far this year. We put a lot of time and effort into preparing for conferences, and we are so excited to see you! Our aim is to meet with 100% of our families, so if something unforeseen happens and you can't keep your conference appointment, please reach out directly to your child's teacher to reschedule.
While you're at conferences, please be sure to stop by and visit our Book Fair! More information about that is below.
Finally, our outdoor Movie Night is taking place this Friday. I hope to see you there!
Sincerely,
Dr. Tyler Simmons, Principal

From the Gym
Hello Fairview Families!
Grades 3-5 have finished Physical Fitness Measurements/Exercises. We had a lot of great effort, and many kids were proud of their results. Check in with them! We’ll revisit the same measurements in the spring in the hopes of making progress. 2nd graders have been practicing some of these as well. K-2 have been working on fitness games—Pirates of the Caribbean, Bull Dozers and Cranes and we even got out Pete the Parachute! All grade levels are currently working on tossing/throwing/catching skills in a variety of games and activities.
By now you may have heard about the potential of a traverse rock-climbing wall to be installed in the gym. It’s true! I’m very excited and very thankful to our PTA for helping to get the ball rolling. Be on the lookout for fundraiser ideas to help us out.
Please check their A,B,C,D schedule and get those tennis shoes on. If they don’t have them they may not get to participate in all of the day’s activities. There have been some situations where kids have had to sit out.
Finally, if you’ve been in the gym lately you might have noticed the pictures on the bulletin boards. They are of our kiddos in action!! If you wish, send me a photo of your child doing something active and I’ll get it up on the board. You’re welcome to send in a hard copy pic or email me one and I’ll get it up!
Thank you for your support and all the best to a great year!
Sincerely,
Mr. Wright
From the Art Room:
lIn art class students have been busy taking pictures of their artworks and uploading them to an art app called Artsonia. Most classes have taken some of their first works home by now, so be on the lookout. Classes are beginning to learn about Landscapes and have started some amazing works of their own! Please feel free to email me or stop by at conferences with any questions.

Technology
Technology Specials
In Technology all grades spent a day outside learning to take pictures with different lighting, angles and background, then editing the pictures using tools in Photos and Notability. They have also been using the Pebble Go and Pebble Go Next databases in Electronic Library to help them know a safe place to look for information. Grades K & 1 have explored Brain Pop Jr in Electronic Library as well. Grades 3-5 have had lessons on Schoology, which is a place where assignments and activities for school can be found. They will use that more as they get older. We continue to learn how to be a good digital citizen. Happy Fall!

From the Media Center
From the Media Center:
We are getting in many new books that students are excited to check out! They are always learning about great authors and amazing series of books. Please continue to help your child to take good care of library books and remember to return them on or before their checkout day. Lost and damaged book
are usually charged $10, but replacement cost is $15-$20 or more, so taking good care of books is best for everyone. Our upcoming book fair is a great way to get books for your home and books make great holiday gifts for children and teachers. See this newsletter for information on days and times. Hope to see you there!

From the Music Room
In music, we have been moving and singing to fall themed music. Younger grades sang about spiders, pumpkins, bats, and much more. In older grades, we sang Aaron Carter’s I Want Candy and composed our own candy rhythms to perform on drums and xylophones. Grades 2-5 just wrapped up learning about Hispanic music. We learned the dances La Raspa and Los Machetes as well as a passing game called Al Citrón. Thanksgiving is right around the corner which can only mean one thing…. Suuuuuper Turkey will be making an appearance in all grade levels very soon.

Cooler Weather
As cooler weather approaches, please dress your children accordingly. At this time of the year it is hard to predict the weather, so dressing in layers is always a great idea.
Winter will be upon us soon. In the event that school is cancelled or we have a 2 hour late start due to inclement weather, that communication will come from the district-level. They typically send out emails and texts, so be sure that you're registered so that you don't miss any special announcements.
Attendance
If your child will be absent for the day, please call or email to report the absence. Please email jhouston@cpsk12.org and your student's teacher on the same e-mail . If we do not hear from you, we will call to check on their well-being.
