Friday Message from Dr. Glaze
Hello, 2023! As we close the chapter on the calendar year of 2022, we welcome in the second semester of our 2022-23 school year. My hope for the remainder of our school year is to maintain a solid focus on student growth and success both inside and outside the classroom. In addition, I look forward to sharing more of the phenomenal things our students and staff are learning and doing as well as showcasing their many accomplishments and activities.
In the three years since I joined TCSC as its superintendent, two timeless words, “collaboration” and “together” have been key in helping to create a more positive, productive, and dynamic school culture. In fact, our district motto, “Working Together for Student Success,” remains as vital, relevant, and clear as when it was first created years ago. Our mission is our driving force to ensure that what each child is learning here today will afford them the capabilities of contributing to a better, more compassionate world tomorrow.
We continue to kick up our game to provide diverse and challenging learning opportunities – from complex mathematics and hands-on scientific exploration to building social-emotional-cultural awareness to leadership and service development experiences and a little bit of everything else in between. We encourage our students to be curious, think, make meaning of multifaceted information, find creative solutions, and understand the perspectives as they work to reach their fullest potential. We know this blend of academic and social-emotional rigor is foundational to success in both education and in the workplace.
And our students continue to show they are up to the challenge. At every level they are demonstrating their knowledge, leadership, and skills - often in ways that benefit others. From growing and collecting food for local food pantries and animal shelter and raising money for charitable organizations to supporting veteran’s organizations, hosting blood drives and recycling, our students are making meaningful contributions that improve lives - not only embodying our district values but demonstrating their understanding of their connection to their community and the world around them.
The late Dr. Stephen R. Covey, whose legacy is built upon his teachings about principle-centered leadership, said, “Leadership is a choice, not a position.” Leaders in our district come in all shapes, sizes, and ages. They include every student open to learning how to bring out the best in themselves and others. By nurturing students’ empathy, creativity, compassion, and civility, we hope to encourage them to respect one another’s unique approaches and ideas. It’s a path that brings about the best solutions, and it’s also what true leaders do.
No matter where I am on campus, I see your children surrounded by very capable, caring, and deeply invested people with an unwavering commitment to their learning, but equally important, to their development as human beings. The journey of tomorrow’s leaders is taking place here today. This brings me satisfaction and optimism that our future is in good hands.
