Hello Talley Community!
We are in need of more coaches in order to make the Spring 2024 Season of Girls on the Run happen at our school. Please reach out to nbundschu@csdecatur.net if you are interested or have any questions. If we do not get enough coaches, we will have to cancel teams. We have availability for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. girlsontherunatlanta.org/coach
We also need a minimum of 8 participants on the Monday/Wednesday team, and right now we only have 5. Visit girlsontherunatlanta.org/programs for more information and to register.
Volunteer Opportunity - Talley's African American Read-In
We are so excited to announce that our African American Read-In is coming up in February! According to the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE),
The National African American Read-In (AARI) is a groundbreaking effort to encourage communities to read together, centering African American books and authors. It was established in 1990 by the Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English to make literacy a significant part of Black History Month. This initiative has reached more than 6 million participants around the world.
At Talley, this looks like a month of community volunteers (family members, community leaders, etc.) coming into classrooms, talking about the importance of Black History Month, and sharing stories written by Black authors/illustrators.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: We are seeking volunteers of all backgrounds to come into classrooms, and share a book written by a Black author with students! If you need help choosing a book, I’ll have some available in the library. However, if there’s a book you have a special connection with, those are always the most meaningful!
Please fill out the form below to indicate your availability by Thursday, January 25 if you are interested in volunteering! I’ll reach out with final volunteer placements and dates during the week of January 29. Please let me know if you have any questions! (along@csdecatur.net)
